Occupant dead, house and several vehicles destroyed in morning fire on Pomona Road

Pomona Road Fire

At 9:22 Tuesday morning, Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in the 1100 block of Pomona Rd. between Ceder Hill and Longfield Rd. for a single family structure fire.

Colonial Beach Fire Chief David Robey, who took command at the scene, told The Journal that when CBVFD arrived on scene the structure was fully involved. Robey also said that an unspecified number of propane tanks were also fully involved.

Robey said that several vehicles also burned during the fire, but surrounding properties sustained no damage.

The occupant, whose name has not been released, died on the scene. Family of the deceased have been notified and were on scene after the fire.

Chief Robey called for a fire investigator, and Joey Straughan, Fire Investigator for the Virginia State Police, responded.

Full companies from Colonial Beach and Oak Grove responded to the fire, as well as a tanker truck from Montross, King George and NDW Company 28 from the Dahlgren Naval Base. Colonial Beach Rescue Squad also assisted.

Fire officials are not releasing any other information since the incident is still under investigation.
