Last week when the July 9, 2014 Journal was sent to be printed, the printer's press broke and we had problems with the printed version of the 7-9-14 paper.

However, the press was fixed, and our July 16, 2014 editions are out as usual.

Two shot during a party early Monday morning

An 11-year-old boy and a 46-year-old man are both in the hospital with gunshot wounds. Sadly no witnesses have come forward to help catch the assailant.

The boy has been in critical condition since last night, May 27, hours after being shot while sleeping in the back seat of a burgundy Cadillac earlier that morning at 2:30 a.m.

The shooting occurred at a residence on Dameron Way in Oldhams, VA.

Police believe the bullets were intended for the adult victim, who was in serious but non-life threatening condition according to reports last night.

Investigating officers told Sheriff C. O. Balderson that upon arrival there appeared to be 100 to 150 party goers at that location. The group had gathered for a weekend celebration and said the party was just ending when a suspect, or suspects, shot eight rounds into the car.

With over 100 people at the scene, no witnesses have come forward to give information, however Sheriff Balderson believes they have at least one person of interest on Tuesday. Balderson would not say if the person of interest was a witness or a suspect.

Both victims are currently at MCV. Last night the boy was in critical condition but did have improvement. It is not clear what his injuries are or if the boy will suffer any long term problems as a result of the shooting.

Witnesses are urged to come forward with any information by either calling Detective Jay Mitchell at (804) 493-8066 or by going on the Sheriff's Office website. www.westcoso.us and leaving an anonymous tip.
