CB prepares for traffic and parking disruptions for special events

Torch Run

Colonial Beach Police Department (CBPD) will host a portion of the Virginia Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run on Wednesday June 6. 

The run will start in Montross at 9 a.m. and will continue in Colonial Beach at 11 a.m. starting on Washington Ave. at Hunan Diner, traveling south on Washington Ave., turning left onto Boundary, then right on Irving Ave.

They will continue south on Irving Ave. to Thackery St. where they will turn around and return north on Irving Ave. down Beach Terrace to the boardwalk. 

They will continue on the boardwalk to Colonial Ave. at the Beach Inn Hotel then onto Town Hill ending at the stage.

There will be no streets closed during this event but police will have emergency vehicle escorts at the beginning of the runners and at the end. 

CBPD asks that anyone traveling the Torch Run route between 11a.m. and noon on Wednesday to be patient and careful when approaching the runners or take an alternate route.

CBPD invites everyone to come out and support their runners during this event. If anyone needs any further information or would like to buy a torch run hat or t-shirt they can contact Lt. Ron Webster at the Police Department (804) 224-0141.

Festival Parades

The festival parades will be held on Friday June 8 at 7 p.m. and Saturday June 9 at noon, starting at Jackson St. and Colonial Ave. 

Both parade routes will start at Colonial Ave. and Jackson St. heading south onto Washington Ave.

The parade will then turn left onto Boundary Ave. and continue past the cannon. The parade will then turn left going against the traffic on Beach Terrace by the river, when they reach the boardwalk at the Municipal Pier the parade will turn left onto Hawthorne, against traffic then turn right onto Taylor St.

The parade will then cross Wilder Ave. and proceed into the town parking lot continuing across Riverboat parking lot, ending at the town stage area. 

There will be signs posting NO PARKING along the parade route from Friday afternoon until the end of the parade on Saturday. Officers will be patrolling the parade route two hours before the parade starting times.

Tickets will be issued for vehicles illegally parked and/or vehicles removed if necessary.

The parade route will be closed to ALL traffic 15 minutes prior to the starting of the parades. 

Downtown incoming traffic will be diverted from Colonial Ave. onto Lynhaven St. at  BB&T bank to Dennison St. at the water tower then onto Garfield Ave. near the rescue squad building and finally to Boundary St. at the Colonial Beach Baptist Church. 

The same route will be used for outgoing traffic until the end of the parades.
