8 year old hit by car on Rt. 205 near Colonial Beach

A Fredericksburg boy was injured with non-life threatening injuries last Wednesday after being struck by a King George driver.

Sergeant Thomas Molnar of the Virginia State Police reported that shortly after 5 p.m on June 19, Virginia State Police were called to the scene of a vehicle crash on State Route 205 on the Tides Mill Bridge  just past Wilkerson's restaurant in Westmoreland County.

Molnar reported that an eight year-old boy ran into the roadway and into the path of a 1998 BMW. The driver of the BMW was unable to avoid striking the boy, who suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was flown to Inova Fairfax Children’s Hospital.

Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad and Air Care two responded.

The boy was reported to have obvious deformities to one leg at the time of the accident. Air Care two landed at 5:37 p.m. and took the patient to Inova Fairfax Children's Hospital.

The 81 year old female driver of the BMW, who was wearing her safety belt, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been announced.
