Infrastructure projects moving forward in Colonial Beach

Colonial Beach has, and continues to, undergo continuous infrastructural work right below residents feet.
However, many citizens don’t even know the work is taking place. Recently a group of residents criticized the council and town staff for failing to work on the town’s infrastructure. The remarks came at public hearings on the recently approved real estate tax increase.

Colonial Beach Council approves 6-cent tax increase

The Colonial Beach Town Council has approved the advertised budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year. The council did so at its June 25 work session.
The budget will be balanced in part by a 6 percent real estate tax increase passed by the council at a meeting a week earlier and by taking $200,000 from reserves.

CB Council approves 6-cent tax increase

The Colonial Beach Town Council has voted 6-1 to raise the real estate tax rate by 6 cents. Councilwoman Wanda Goforth cast the opposing vote.

Colonial Beach Town Council recently held a special meeting on to discuss solutions to balancing the proposed 2015-16 budget.

Downtown property owners invited to facade improvement meeting

The Colonial Beach Revitalization Management Team has identified roughly 25 properties that are eligible for facade improvement money from the Community Development Block Grant Revitalization grant.
The revitalization team is reaching out to all the business property owners in the downtown revitalization area, which stretches from the Riverfront Boardwalk to both sides of Washington Avenue and from Hawthorne Street to Colonial Avenue.

Robin Grove Park will not be sold

Colonial Beach Town Council members Mike Looney and Wanda Goforth are opposing plans to sell Robin Grove Park.
Their announcement at the council’s March 26 work session effectively derailed the plans of the owner of Boat House Marina to purchase the property.

New officers in Colonial Beach

Because several new officers and staff recently joined the Colonial Beach Police Department, they were introduced to the town council and residents at the Dec 11 meeting.

CB council candidates split on sharing services with county

The Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Colonial Beach Foundation hosted a candidates’      forum Oct 21 at the Colonial Beach Town Center.
The idea of combining services, such as school, police, fire and rescue with the county was a main topic of the debate.
