CB revitalization efforts continue

The Management Team for the revitalization grant application project continues to meet every other Monday at Town Center.

The team currently is preparing for an upcoming Saturday, Aug. 13, public meeting where participants will be asked to vote on a new slogan for the town. Based on recommendations from team members and the public, at least five new slogans will be available for participants to choose from and vote for their favorite. Participants will also have an opportunity to submit a slogan during the meeting. Colonial Beach has long been known as the “Playground of the Potomac” and that slogan will be included in the vote.

Other slogans that will be presented include “Jewel of the Potomac,” “Virginia’s Best Kept Secret,” Northern Neck’s Best Kept Secret,” and “Making Memories — Sunrise to Sunset.”

The town slogan selected will be the cornerstone of a new promotional and marketing effort designed to increase low-impact tourism, bring new businesses to town and other economic development opportunities.

Participants will also be able to view a preliminary drawing of what the commercial boardwalk area could look like by incorporating all previously identified improvements areas into a design plan. The drawing shows each area targeted for improvement by citizen focus groups, such as more green space, additional boardwalk businesses, extending Taylor Street to Colonial Avenue, adding a gazebo and dock at the end of Colonial Avenue and more efficient use of parking and public areas.

Team members have also compiled a list of about 25 significant historical sites in the commercial boardwalk and surrounding area that will be showcased at the August public meeting.

The management team will appear before the Town Council Economic Development Committee on Thursday, July 28, to present an update for the committee’s review.

The public meeting will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Town Center from 9:30 a.m. until noon. All Colonial Beach residents and visitors are encouraged to attend.
