Colonial Beach School Superintendent Donna Power, School Board Chair Tim Trivett, and Elementary School Principal Kevin Newman took center stage on Wednesday, Jan. 19, to officiate at a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly installed modpod unit at the elementary school. Newman cut the ribbon to the entrance to the modpod in front of a crowd of approximately 45 town officials and residents.
In September Power urged the school board to defer installation of a modpod unit to house a newly created middle school in order to replace three deteriorated trailers at the elementary school. School Board members agreed and Power worked diligently to gain all the necessary town permits and to organize removal of the three trailers and installation of the modpod over the Christmas holiday. Students have been in their new classrooms since last week. Power reminded attendees that “this has been a message of hope to the community that we can move on.”
After a tour of the modpod unit, which includes a new office for Newman, a luncheon, which had been prepared by high school students enrolled in the new culinary arts class, was served in the gymnasium.
