Craft show introduces artists to Colonial Beach

Despite a lower than normal showing of artists, the Colonial Beach Arts and Craft show was a great success and Mother Nature provided nice weather.
This year’s Judged Art Show drew 40 artists and crafters came from all over the country. Judges were Susan Elliott and Olga Farneth. All items must be hand-crafted by the crafter. Original or prints from the originals are required by the artists. No resale or commercial items are allowed in the end of summer show.
Artists and craftsman as well as the public had a great time.
Youngster “Jessie James” Williams tried out one of Donnie Rexrodes’ wooden guns by “shooting” his parents, Crystal and Marty. Rexrode makes wooden toys and furniture in his home in Waynesboro.

Anthony Scott, showed off his hand-painted ceramic duck. Hannah Janney’s booth, Pottery by Hand, provided unpainted hand crafted pottery for children to paint themselves. Janney is from Lincoln, Va.
This was Janney’s first year participating in the show, and she was so impressed with the town she is looking into renting a shop for six months. If her business succeeds, she is contemplating moving to Colonial Beach.
Vice Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Debb Riston, started organizing the Boardwalk Art Show in Colonial Beach 3 years ago when the Chamber was short on help. After her first show she decided to continue to promote the show because the artists and all involved were so nice, and she enjoyed being around all the beautiful artwork and crafts.
The Art show is run by and proceeds benefit the Chamber of Commerce, which goes back into the community through services and advertisement for the town.
Winners of the show were: First place, Mary Lou Booth, watercolors. Second place: Lynn Burcher for glass jewelry. Third place: Shiroko’s Pottery.
Honorable mentions went to Randy Wolfe, woodwork; Sharon and Michael Walsh for Row House Soap; Don and Linda Corely, Barn Again.
