Update of 911 mapping to take place next week in Colonial Beach

Starting Monday August 17th, if you see someone walking up and down your street with a clipboard don’t be alarmed.

After a long struggle, Town Manager Val Foulds, Chief Hawkins and former Zoning Administrator Chuck Bird have convinced the Colonial Beach Town Council to provide funding to update the Town’s 911 maps.

Part of the update would include becoming a part of Westmoreland County’s Reverse 911 system.

Reverse 911 would allow officials to send automated or recorded messages to residents warning of danger. For example officials could warn of impending severe weather, prisoner escapes or even instructions in case of terrorist attacks.

On August 17th the process of updating these maps will begin.  Mike Green from MSAG Data Consultants will be going to each and every address in town to verify each one.

Foulds has met and spoken with Green who will be performing the work, and he has assured her that he will not engage citizens or ring their doorbells.

Green will not be walking onto properties unless it is necessary to verify there is a house on the property, such as long driveways in the more wooded areas.

He will, however politely answer questions about what he is doing.

Foulds asks that residents be aware of his presence and don’t be afraid to ask anyone who comes onto your property for identification.

The work is expected to take one full week.
