How about all those tickets at the Beach?


Click it or Ticket and C.A.R.E.

Have you been hearing those commercials from the Division of Motor Vehicle where the teenager said his friend ruined his concert experience because he didn’t buckle up and wound up paying a ticket for not having his seat belt buckled? Have you seen the signs posted on the roads and front fenders of police cruisers saying, “Click it or Ticket”? Did you believe it could happen to you?
Well if you have been stopped for any other violation and didn’t have your seat belt buckled, chances are you got a ticket.


You may have been caught up in the recent Click it or Ticket Check point in Colonial Beach Virginia on route 205 at the old site of the Happy Clam between 5 and 7 p.m.. If you got waived through you were not lucky, you were legal.
At 5:00 p.m. Colonial Beach Police and Westmoreland Sherriff’s Department formed a joint effort to enforce the Statewide Click it or Ticket Campaign which is traditionally held in the Month of May.
As well as May’s Click it or Ticket campaign, State Police where conducting Operation C.A.R.E.
The Operation Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) is a state-sponsored, national program designed to reduce crashes, fatalities and injuries caused by speeding, impaired driving and failure to use occupant restraints.
As a participating agency, State Police increased visibility, checkpoints and traffic enforcement efforts throughout the Commonwealth beginning Friday morning, May 22, 2009, at 12:01 a.m. and continued through midnight, Monday, May 25, 2009.
730 cars went through last week's Safety stop on Wednesday in Colonial beach and resulted in 43 violations of various kinds and 31 violations of no Town sticker, according to Colonial Beach officer Wells.
An officer was posted at the top of the hill just before the curve to alert drivers to the traffic stop. Cars with violations where directed to pull to the side to await their tickets.
But if you saw familiar faces pulled over, don’t be quick to assume they were in violation of the law, drivers who were not ready with their license or registration were asked to pull to the side to keep traffic flowing.
