Colonial Beach ready for a sparkling 4th of July

Colonial Beach will be celebrating the nation's 237th birthday on the 4th of July with a number of public activities culminating in a crowd pleasing, sparkling fireworks show along the Potomac River.

The fireworks, which will begin at 9 p.m. and last for almost 45 minutes, are a popular annual event that draws thousands of residents and visitors to the riverfront community each year.

Visitors come to Colonial Beach from Washington, Maryland, North Carolina and from across the Old Dominion as well as other areas to enjoy the beach community and its glittering 4th of July fireworks display.

Whether watching from a boat on the Potomac River just offshore, sitting on the beach on a blanket or viewing from the outdoor deck of a nearby restaurant, past audiences have labeled the 4th of July event absolutely spectacular.

In addition to the fireworks, other planned Colonial Beach activities include a day long fundraiser by the Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, a 4th of July Golf Cart Parade, a bazaar, yard sale and raffle sponsored by St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church and vendor booths and concession stands along the Colonial Beach boardwalk.
