Santa Claus is coming to the beach!

A large group of volunteer elves, many who wish to remain anonymous, have worked tirelessly to prepare Town Hill to receive Santa and Mrs. Claus this coming Saturday. The volunteers have decorated the hill, setting up lights, decorations, sound equipment and activity areas. There is also a nice gingerbread house to receive Santa and Mrs. Clause.
With the help of Public Works, the group has lined Colonial and Washington with snowflake lights to lead Santa to the Winter Wonderland on the Hill.
The event is hosted by the Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce but is only successful due to the volunteers.

Saturday, Dec. 1, Santa Claus will be coming to Colonial Beach. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Claus and will make his grand entrance during Santa’s Parade which begins at 1 p.m. starting at Rankin’s True Value parking lot, turning left onto Colonial Ave., then right onto Washington Ave.
20121128cb1The parade will then turn left on Hawthorne, and left on Taylor. Spectators can join anywhere along the parade route to welcome Santa to Colonial Beach.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for pictures while Santa hears all the children’s wish lists. A photographer will be on hand to take pictures, producing 5 x 7 prints for $8. Anyone wishing to take photos with their own camera is asked to donate $2.

Visitors will enjoy a host of events; there will be refreshments, pony rides, music, games, face painting and more.
Christmas trees will be on sale to benefit charities. There will be a 50/50 raffle which you do not need to be present for the drawing to win.
At 4:30 p.m. Mayor Rummage, Santa and Mrs. Claus will light the town’s Christmas Tree.

In case of inclement weather Santa will relocate to the Colonial Beach High School on First St.

Beginning at 5 p.m. the 15th Annual Lighted Boat Parade will set sail. The parade begins at marker number two, will go past Municipal Pier, the condominiums and Bluff Point to Wilkerson’s restaurant. The fleet will then turn around and come back returning around 7:15 p.m.

Many folks on D Dock as well as yacht club members are participating. If you or someone you know is interested, pass the word along to anyone who may wish to join in parading the river with the fleet.

You may contact Carey Geddes at the Beach Service Center at (804) 224-5000 for information. There will be a captain’s meeting at 11 a.m. at Dockside Restaurant, Saturday morning to go over the parade formation and route.

Come out and help Santa kick off the 2012 Christmas season.
