Building halted in CB

Notice to builders no April fools joke

Anyone wishing to seek a building permit in Colonial Beach will have to wait. Due to the council’s indecision, the Town of Colonial Beach is no longer in compliance with regulations that would allow them to issue building permits, according to R. V’lent Lassiter, Principal Environmental Planner of the Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation.

Sewage backflow leaves local man in a foul mood

Property owner William Entwisle is frustrated and worried over a sewage backup issue that occurs in his basement bathroom during power outages.

Entwisle lives at 209 Monroe St., near the bottom of a hill.

Group proposes new cultural center at Beach

Ruediger Lentz, Executive Director of the German-American Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., is heading up a proposal to purchase and renovate the old police station on North Irving Avenue to open a cultural center in Colonial Beach.

Colonial Beach will miss Steve Swope

Drifter “Black & Gold” blood will forever flow through his veins — he pushed the envelope of success beyond its limits. Steve Swope is more than a sports icon, he is an American high school sports institution, and now that he has officially announced his retirement from the Colonial Beach school system, his tireless spirit will be embedded in the fields associated with Monroe Park, and the rattling rafters of the Drifter dome.
