CBHS seeks wireless tower

Superintendent Kathleen Beane is attempting to negotiate with Milestone Communications to erect a wireless tower on the Colonial Beach High School campus. If successfully negotiated, Colonial Beach Schools would receive revenue for years to come. It would be the first tower by Milestone in the Northern Neck.

Motel closing postpones hearing

A preliminary hearing that was scheduled Jan. 15 in Westmoreland County General District Court for William Baker, charged with the brutal fatal stabbing of Elizabeth “Neicey” Thompson at the Beach Gate Inn in Colonial Beach, had to be postponed because of the forced closing of the troubled motel by authorities.

Colonial Beach Artists’ Guild presents:

Welcome in the New Year and see what all our artists have been up to! The first stop is at JarrettThor Fine Arts Gallery which will be celebrating local artist Ebbie Hynson’s birthday, she will be 93! Ms. Hynson has been painting most of her life and is still going strong even after a recent illness. So stop in and give her a hand for a job well done!

Across the street on Hawthorn St., Pottery by Hand is featuring their resident artists who are all ready to celebrate the New Year with lots of artistic pieces on sale, such as mosaics, stained glass and much more for your viewing pleasure. Local artist Andrea Clement will be exhibiting at the Riverview Inn on Hawthorn.

Going down Hawthorn, Esco Limited has reconfigured what’s old and what’s new, be sure to stop in and say hello. Right next door, Visions by Shirl is exhibiting many new pieces by her resident artists and offering a sale on handmade wind chimes. Stop by and enjoy refreshments and a celebration for the New Year.

Bundle up and come visit us. Just as a reminder, admission is always free to the public, refreshments are served and the people are friendly. Enjoy a pleasant evening at our 2nd Friday Art Walk.

Council to begin inquiry on Beachgate Inn

The Beachgate Inn has been boarded up and vacated by 36 residents. Officials are researching how the hotel could have slipped through the system, leaving conditions so bad it had to be shut down.

Wmd Co. breaks ground for new judicial center

Westmoreland County officials have broken ground for the new Westmoreland County Judicial Center which will be constructed in Montross at a cost of $8.4 million over the next year on property adjacent to the county’s George English Memorial Building.
