Good Sportsmanship award

 

 

 

Ms. Flores’ Health and Physical Education 2nd and 3rd grade class’s student teams earned the “Good Sportsmanship Award” the 1st semester, 2011-2012 school year Colonial Beach Elementary School. The  students had an ice cream social and enjoyed recreation time in the gym.

FEMA obligates $31,000 reimbursement for Irene

FEMA has notified Colonial Beach that it has obligated $31,000 reimbursement for trash clean up on public property and storm preparations, for Hurricane Irene.

Because the reimbursement does not cover private assistance or pick up of private debris the town will bear the costs associated with residential removal of debris.

Revitalization Plan reviewed

The Colonial Beach Business District Revitalization Management Team (Block Grant Committee) met on Dec 12 to review the Revitalization Plan’s last chapter on implementation and reviewed cost estimates for various proposed projects to utilize sought after revitalization grant money.

Tim Trivett questions CB Volunteer Rescue Squad activities

Tim Trivett spoke out at Thursday’s Town Council Meeting as a private citizen airing concerns regarding activity by unnamed members of the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad. Holding leadership responsible, he raised concerns that vehicles with emergency tags were being driven at high speeds through town streets with no regard for public safety.
“For too long now, there have been a couple of vehicles that have emergency tags on them that’ve been flying up our streets, Bancroft and all into the town for emergencies and not showing any regard.” Trivett questioned whether the council would be liable for accidents resulting from a member responding to a call.
Trivett implied that some of these incidents were unwarranted, saying, “We have people that are untrained running to the scenes, to medical emergencies, it’s even after some of these scenes have already been secured and you have medical personnel there.”
Trivett also addressed the personal use of rescue squad saying, “these vehicles are being used for personal use, on a regular basis, on a daily basis!”

Residents polled agree on one thing, the town needs a facelift but everyone has different ideas about what’s best. The revitalization block grant committee must work to decide what changes the town will pursue.

In 2010, Colonial Beach received a Business District Revitalization planning grant of $35,000 to perform an analysis of the town and develop a comprehensive economic restructuring plan for the town’s historic business district in order to attract more tourists.
