Maryland Classics win top awards at 34th Rod Run to the Beach

Two Maryland cars won top honors at the 34th Annual Rod Run to the Beach in a competition held last weekend, despite cloudy skies and occasional rain, as a part of the event sponsored by the Colonial Beach Education Foundation.

School Board presents council with funding ideas

At a joint meeting between the Colonial Beach Town Council and the School Board, Chairman Tim Trivett updated the council on the steps involved with relocating the elementary school to the high school campus and the current conditions at the high school. All members of the school board were in attendance, and only Tommy Edwards and Tim Curtin where unable to attend from the council.

Mayor gets wet at National Night Out

National Night Out began in 1984, to allow citizens and law enforcement to get together to help fight crime. Activities are designed to engage both young and old, educating the public on current laws and raising awareness on how law enforcement protects citizens.

Three generations of serving Colonial Beach

Growing up in Colonial Beach, Rocky Denson was fascinated by the well stocked shelves in his grandfather’s store. Denson’s Supermarket was an essential part of life at the Beach for more than six decades.

School board member and retired Coach, Wayne Kennedy arrested

According to a press release by the Virginia State Police, the Journal has learned that Cletus W. Kennedy, 59, of the 200 block of Meadow Avenue, Colonial Beach, VA, was charged with two felony counts of Obtaining Money by False Pretense (18.2-178) and three felony counts of Trademark Infringement (59.1-92.12). Kennedy was arrested in Warsaw following a state police investigation at the Warsaw Flea Market. Kennedy was arraigned in Richmond County General District Court, August 2, 2013.
