Fishing is rapidly shifting to mostly catfish and rockfish at this point. Deer season has picked up with the rut. Look for youth stories soon.
Ken’s Tackle reported an angler experiencing great smallmouth fishing near Little Falls.
Winter Harbor reported that most anglers are seeing lots of smaller rockfish, but a few were keeper size. Squid is a great bait for the numerous catfish being caught this week, as well.
Ken’s reported that small bucktails are catching keeper stripers, but few fish are being caught on larger lures.
Aqua Land reported catfish galore, some striper and a few perch. Squid was the bait of choice for perch.
Ken’s Tackle in Spotsylvania reported that the trout in town are biting well at Old Cossey Pond.
Lake Anna anglers are finding crappie uplake near the bridge and in the arms of the lake on brushpiles and docks in 5-10 feet of water. Stripers are uplake hitting sassy shad and jerkbait type lures and then moving to deeper water when the sun comes up where they can be caught jigging spoons.
Captain Ryan Rogers (804-580-0245) still reports very good rockfishing this week. The fish are looking very fat and healthy with some going up to the mid-30-inch mark.
Deer season is picking up. The rut seems to have peaked, but bucks are still chasing does. Duck season is mediocre overall. Some hunters did well and others saw birds but had few come in. Goose season also started. Hunters with access to fields reportedly did well. Squirrels are hard to find in most areas due to the lack of acorns. Look for holly trees. They are eating lots of holly berries now.
