King George Outdoor Club turns deer into meals

Last Wednesday, Dec. 4, we had an anonymous person donate a deer for us to cut up and grind into meals. There was only room for ten people to be there. There were three girls and seven boys.

Fishing has dwindled to the few hardy souls that don’t hunt. That is not to say that fishing is not good, or they cannot be caught. Lack of interest is the big issue. Good fishing exists for winter catfish; Lake Anna for striper and bass; chain pickerel in local swamps and creeks and, of course, striper. Don’t forget the annual Disabled Veterans Hunt this Saturday

This Saturday will be full of excitement for a number of disabled veterans who make the trip from Richmond and other locations to hunt and fellowship with one another at Caledon State Park. Many of these men and women are unable to walk, or they cannot walk well. Some are in wheelchairs.

The impact of the poor acorn crop

I read with interest a press release by the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) recently. It detailed the poor mast crop this year, and possible reasons why we are experiencing the near failure of trees to produce nuts. I will attempt to summarize it here with added insights from others, as well as myself.

Overview
Fishing is rapidly shifting to mostly catfish and rockfish at this point. Deer season has picked up with the rut. Look for youth stories soon.
