Auction set for Mid-Atlantic Precast

Phyllis Cook

Mid-Atlantic Precast, a business in the King George Industrial Park, is going on the auction block next month on April 24.
The King George Economic Development Authority (EDA) was informed of that last week by Economic Development Director Nicole Thompson. The news that the company went out of business last month was provided at the meeting on Mar. 8.

The business had opened in February 2009 in the midst of the economic slowdown and recently lost its final struggle to stay in business.
Pete Hastings from Motley’s Auction & Realty Group was at the meeting to explain about the foreclosure auction process.

Hastings said the auction is set for April 24 at 2 p.m. for a foreclosure sale on site in the industrial park and with internet bidding also available.

In addition to the building and property, which comprises lots 12, 13 & 14, and totals a little more than 18 acres, equipment is also being sold which includes Spankrete machines, concrete maker and mixer and a 25-ton crane.
A property tour is scheduled for April 17 for prospective bidders. Those interested can obtain additional information and learn about registration requirements by calling Hastings, 804-334-2628.

BUSINESS APPRECIATION EVENT ON MAY 16
The EDA confirmed its wishes to hold this year’s business appreciation event at the new building in Dahlgren that houses the University of Mary Washington – Dahlgren site.

The event will take place on Wednesday, May 16. The evening will again be sponsored by the EDA and the Board of Supervisors.
The location is a change from previous years when it was held at the King George Citizens Center. EDA members and Supervisors both had concurred that it would provide a chance for people to see and tour the new building in Dahlgren, next to the new Walmart.

King George officials have been saying ‘Thank you’ to county businesses with an annual appreciation event since 2004.

This one will also differ somewhat in format from the past, as it is not expected that tables will be set out, since there will be no keynote speaker.

Attendees can expect to hear welcome remarks from Board of Supervisors Chairman Cedell Brooks and EDA Chairman Glen Moore, along with a brief overview about the building from Mark Safferstone, executive director of the Dahlgren site.

Attendees will be able to mingle during an informal meet-and-greet time with ‘heavy’ hors d’oeuvres, beverages, coffee and desserts available at various stations.
