Fatal accident closes Rt. 3

At 10:19 a.m. Tuesday morning, Nov. 15, Virginia State Police responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Route 3 north of Route 610, Saint Anthony’s Road in King George.
The crash occurred when the driver of a 1995 Ford Taurus traveling eastbound on Route 3 crossed over the double yellow line sideswiping a 2006 Mazda Tribute. After striking the Tribute, the Ford Taurus struck a 2009 International Box Truck head-on. The Mazda and Box Truck were traveling westbound on Route 3 at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Ford, who was not wearing his safety belt, died at the scene. The occupants in the two other vehicles were wearing their safety belts and no injuries were reported.
Route 3 was closed for approximately three hours to allow crews to investigate the crash.  Motorists were detoured around the crash scene.
The King George County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the on-going state police investigation.
