Supervisors postpone remainder of School Board appropriations; call for August joint meeting

At a meeting the previous week on June 24, Supervisors had approved allocations of funding for the first quarter of 2014-15 for schools and all county departments, with the expectation that changes would be coming in the amounts for state revenue at the next meeting in mid-July.

Landfill vertical expansion explored

King George officials have been considering vertical expansion and gathering information about it since Waste Management District Manager Tom Cue first floated the idea more than a year and a half ago.

S&P upgrades King George’s financial ratings to ‘AA+’

The King George Board of Supervisors got good news last week from Travis Quesenberry, county administrator, who informed them that the financial rating agency Standard & Poor’s has upgraded the county’s bond rating again.

Board approves amended Dahlgren rezoning on split vote

The King George Board of Supervisors approved an amended rezoning request in Dahlgren at last week’s meeting on May 6 on a split vote, 3-2, with Ruby Brabo and Cedell Brooks voting against the project.
Chairman Joe Grzeika, Dale Sisson and Jim Howard voted in favor of the request.

US 301 rezoning to be reconsidered at May 6 Supervisors meeting

The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to next week reconsider a rezoning request in Dahlgren adjacent to the Bayberry subdivision. The meeting is on Tuesday, May 6. A vote may or may not be taken on the case at that time.
A public hearing was held on March 18, with the formal public comment time now closed on the issue, though one or more opponents have continued to provide additional comments in opposition to the project at each regular meeting.

King George sets tax rates; hearing on budget draws three comments

The King George Board of Supervisors heard from three speakers at last week’s public hearing on its proposed budget for next fiscal year, 2014-15, with no one speaking during the hearing on tax rates for the current calendar year. The hearings took place on April 15.
