February for the Heart!

“February for the Heart is the saying for the month at King George High School (KGHS)! Through the month of February, students and staff will be showing their support of the American Heart Association through fundraising and sweet activities! The KGHS Leadership Council, a group of students made up of all the club, class, and organization presidents and their advisors on campus, put this month’s activities in action to promote the American Heart Association and support staff and family members who have been affected by heart disease, attacks, and other ailments. A goal of $1300 has been set for the month’s fundraising efforts. That is less than a

dollar per person in the school on an average day!

To kick off February for the Heart, everyone was asked to wear RED on Friday, Feb. 3, the National Wear Red Day!

The week of Feb. 6–10, Second Block classes will be in a contest to see who can raise the most money by Friday for the American Heart Association. Change and cash collections will be tallied each day! The winning class will receive a sweet treat of Red Velvet Cupcakes and Red Punch!
The week of Feb. 13–17 is the National Random Acts of Kindness Week. Students and staff will be asked to make donations to post hearts on the pillars in the cafeteria, give carnations to others, and enjoy healthy apples! There will also be activities to promote random acts of kindness!

The end of February brings the greatest fundraising opportunity for February for the Heart! Teachers will participate in a ‘Shower them with Flowers’ challenge where the teacher that raises the most money for having the biggest heart, will be showered with flowers and receive a dozen roses. That winning teacher will then be able to designate someone, if not him or her self, to deliver a pie in the face to our Principal, Mr. Cliff Conway. But before the pie in the face can happen, Mr. Conway has stated that the goal of $1300 must be reached. Mr. Conway has further challenged KGHS to double that goal to $2600, promising more pie opportunities!
If you would like to make a contribution to these efforts, please contact Dee Strauss at KGHS – (540) 775-3535 ext. 2103.
