*** NSF DAHLGREN ALL HANDS INFORMATION - PLEASE DISSEMINATE WIDELY ***
As we continue to work towards the full implementation of increased security
measures and minimize the impact to our Community, the following changes are
being implemented on the morning of 26 March. To support the efficient
ingress of traffic, both lanes at Main Gate on Dahlgren Road will be open to
incoming traffic. From 6 - 9 a.m., Monday
- Friday, those that access the Main Gate entry control point may proceed in
either lane to enter the base. A diagram of the new traffic pattern is
attached for your review. Please ensure you review these for ease of
Once entrants are through main gate, they can maintain one-way traffic in
both lanes until Third Street, when 2-way traffic will resume.
Traffic in the left lane will enable left turns at Third Street to access
ATRC, Aegis BMD, 614th, NAMDC, NSWC Departments and CSCS.
Traffic in the right lane will proceed straight and may access those areas
via Bronson Road; all others may continue to proceed on Dahlgren Road to
conduct business at the School, CDC and other areas as we do today. With
those changes, restrictions will be made to the following roads. Traffic
will not be allowed to enter Dahlgren Road from Hall Road and only right
turns will be allowed from Sampson Road onto Dahlgren Road during this time.
Please note that if you must exit the base between 6 - 9 a.m., you will have
to do so through B Gate. Current changes at B Gate allow dual inbound
access until 10 a.m.
These changes are being made in an effort to improve safety conditions as
well as assist local schools in getting buses through in a timely
manner to avoid delays. Changes are being implemented following a
discussion with King George County and school officials, King George County
Sheriff's Office and Virginia Department of Transportation officials early
Since the new hands-on credentials review was implemented last Wednesday,
base officials have spent a great deal of time monitoring traffic and
drivers. A number of observations have been made that are contributing to
potential traffic safety issues and entry delays.
Please review this list and be sure you are following proper traffic laws
and most efficient procedures to assist in reduced back-ups:
* A high number of drivers are not obeying the "No Right Turn on Red"
sign at Rt. 301 and Owens Drive between 6 - 9 a.m. for entry to B Gate.
* A number of drivers continue to cross inbound lanes near B Gate from
Potomac Drive to proceed north on US 301. Recommend individuals seek
alternate routes to move north on US 301.
* Drivers are underutilizing the two lanes at B Gate to proceed straight
on Bennion to their work site. Please remember both lanes are allowed to go
straight after entry. Using both lanes will help alleviate traffic
congestion on US 301.
* Please have credentials removed and available when you reach the gate and
do not remain stopped to stow credentials after clearing the entry control
point - you can stow your badge after you've cleared the ECP.
It's the responsibility of all that enter the base daily to follow proper
traffic laws and efficient procedures to help reduce back-ups and increase
safety. Thank you for your cooperation.
