Two King George men – an uncle and his nephew -- were killed Aug. 22 when the van they were driving in struck a tree, state police said.
Ryan L. Pitts, 34, of King George, was driving a 2010 Chrysler van south on Route 607 (Port Conway Road) about a mile south of Route 3 when the crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m., police said.
The van went off the right-hand side of the road, overcorrected, went off the road to the left and hit the tree, police said. Brian C. Pitts, 19, of King George, was a passenger in the car. Both men, who were wearing seat belts, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The crash still is being investigated, but police said speed and alcohol were factors in the accident.
