Fredericksburg held its annual Via Colori street painting festival, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22 and 23 from 10-5. The students from King George High School turned out in force, completing five of the approximately 80 squares painted by artists from around the area.
The KGHS Art Club members Katie Bailey, Genni Askin, Sara Cialan, Julie Watkins, and Emily Clark worked together to finish the square titled "Welcome to My Wonderland." Seniors Abby Hastings and Sarah Phillips completed a square together, as did Brittney Musick and Selena Learn. Additionally, Chelsea Hogan and Sierra Dermody each completed their own square. As their art teacher and art club sponsor, I also completed a square.

Registration deadline is Oct. 15 for Nov. 6 election
With the voter deadline less than a week away, the number of King George residents registered to vote in the Nov. 6 presidential election totals more than the number registered for voting in the Presidential election four years ago.
With a few days still left to register through Monday, Oct. 15, the registrant count is 15,020 voters, as of close of business last Friday, Oct. 5. That tops the number of 13,453 voters who had registered by the deadline four years ago for that historic Presidential election.
Regarding the current number of registered voters, King George Registrar Lorrie Gump told The Journal last Friday, “I went back to Jan. 2, 2012, and the registrant count was 14,367. So, even with the big purge that was done back in March, we have increased our voter rolls by 653 from January to today.”
Purging is the term used to remove the names of ineligible voters from the official list of registered voters for such reasons as death, moving from election district and conviction of a felony.

At last week’s meeting of the King George Board of Supervisors, David Brown, Northern Neck Residency Administrator, provided an update on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) project for the Owens intersection on Dahlgren, saying acquisition of right-of-way is on hold.
Brown added that VDOT is considering reducing some of the right-of-way impacts along the length of the project. He also told the board that staff is working on addressing the other comments received from the county.
