King George’s fracking comments to be finalized for draft of state regulations

King George is set to finalize its comments for submission to the commonwealth on draft regulations being for oil and gas drilling.
That action is planned for a Dec. 1 meeting of the Board of Supervisors

Axel on patrol as county’s newest police dog

King George County Duty Sheriff Wayland Carter and his partner, Axel, King George’s newest police dog, began work last week.
The new crime fighting partners just graduated from K-9 school and earned their canine services certifications.
Axel is a 17-month old German Shepherd from the Netherlands.

Caledon Festival draws enthusiastic attendees

The rain did not go away, but the residents and visitors to Saturday’s Art and Wine Festival at Caledon State Park were determined not to come back another day.

Fracking hearing spurs passionate debate

The Virginia Department of Mines Minerals and Energy’s 2 p.m. meeting on Nov. 2 drew 50 people in King George last week, with most of the 15 speakers asking for stricter regs in regard to fracking.
Some speakers asked for a ban on the practice in this part of the state, citing the potential for contamination of aquifers, the underground sources of water.

Kids enjoy ghoulish good time at King George Halloween Fun Fest

More than 100 children and 150 parents attended King George Department of Parks and Recreation’s annual Halloween Funfest.
The fun evening included 15 carnival games, a flashlight egg hunt and a donut-eating race. Mystery walkers gave prizes for great costumes.
