Stanley Jones, who served as Caroline County school superintendent from 2002 to 2008, has been hired as interim superintendent for King George County.
He will begin work in January at $500 per day.
Jones will replace Superintendent Candace Brown who is leaving at the end of the year. Under state law, all superintendent contracts must end on June 30 of any year.
The King George School Board met last week to interview three candidates for interim superintendent. After meeting in closed session the school board took action to name Jones to
Jones has a master’s degree and professional endorsement of Admin and Supervision PreK-12 and School Counselor PreK-12.
After leaving Caroline County he served as interim superintendent in Prince Edward county in 2009.
He had over 40 years working with the Caroline county school system. When he was introduced to the Prince Edward Board of Supervisors he told the members that he had been a bus driver, teacher, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent in Caroline. He is a retired colonel in the U. S. Army.
In a short interview by phone, he expressed his anticipation to get back at the wheel, taking over the superintendent spot.
A newly constituted King George School Board will take office in January. Three new members to be elected on Nov. 8 will join Rose and Rick Randall and begin the process to seek candidates, interview, and select a permanent superintendent to begin that job on July 1, 2012.
Renee Parker, Lynn Pardee and Dennis Paulsen are not running for reelection next month.
