King George budget approved, real estate tax rate to rise

The King George Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a $70 million budget for 2015-16 that includes a two-cent increase of the real estate tax rate.
The current real estate tax rate is 59 cents per $100 of valuation. It now rises to 61 cents.
The 2015-16 budget leaves all other taxes at the same levels.

King George rezones property for Commercial Metals Company

The King George Board of Supervisors approved rezoning 38.62-acres from agricultural to industrial use.
The rezoning paves the way for Commercial Metals Company to invest $12 million to relocate and expand its manufacturing operations with construction of a 84,000 square-foot rebar fabrication facility. Plans for the complex include a warehouse and office space on 30 acres of land to be incorporated into the county-owned industrial park.

Service Authority proposes $5 million budget for 2015-16

Rate increases to be explored next week on April 14

The King George Service Authority will consider potential rate hikes for the 2015-16 fiscal year, with budget expenditures proposed to be about $427,000 more than the current budget.

Supervisors ponder 2-cent tax rate increase

The King George Board of Supervisors may be preparing to debate its previously stated opposition to a real estate tax increase as part of its 2015-16 budget.

Supervisors endorse 2015-16 budget with no tax increase

The Board of Supervisors directed County Administrator Travis Quesenberry to proceed with development of a balanced 2015-16 budget with no tax increases.
The new fiscal year begins on July 1.

Dahlgren base land use study approved in King George

A joint land use study for the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren, underway since September 2013, was approved March 3 by the King George Board of Supervisors.
In addition to King George, the other localities involved in the study with the Dahlgren base are Westmoreland County and the town of Colonial Beach, as well as Charles and St. Mary’s counties in Maryland.

Supervisors unveil $38.5M 2015-16 budget

The King George County Board of Supervisors reviewed its approximately $38.5 million budget  for 2015-16, finding a potential gap of $2.2 million as revenues were estimated at about $36.3 million.
