Dixie L. Connor

Dixie L. Connor, 77, of Colonial Beach passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Dixie was born on May 3, 1935. She started her journey to the Rainbow Bridge to be reunited with Miss Rosie, and together they crossed the bridge to spend eternity in Heaven.

Dixie was born in Arlington and lived in Alexandria for 25 years before moving to Colonial Beach eight years ago. She was a bookkeeper and accountant for 30 years before retiring.

Her passions included working crossword puzzles, spending weekends at Monroe Bay Campground with family and friends for the past 22 years and baking cookies and breads for her boys at Christmastime.

Dixie was preceded in death by her mom and dad, Frank and Dorothy Greene, and sister Pam Greene.

Survivors include C. Wayne Hill of the home for the past 24 years; her best buddy, Raindrop; three sons, Deen Matteo (Kim) of Colorado, Bill Matteo (Ginni) of Hartwood and Gary Matteo (Michelle) of Gatesville, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Frank Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister Dottie Gleason of Arizona; and sister Sandy Wood of Maryland.

The family will hold a private service. Dixie’s ashes will be transported to Pampa, Texas, for burial.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, VA, 22443.

The family thanks all of the nurses and staff in the SICU and Hospice unit of Mary Washington Hospital for all their diligence and compassion while taking care of Dixie.
