Naomi Elizabeth Wright Johnson was born in Westmoreland County on July 24, 1935, to the late Isaac and Frances Wright. On Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, after a prolonged illness, under the watchful eyes of her grandchildren at her home, Naomi was quietly called from labor to rest. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.
Naomi loved the Lord. She was baptized at an early age and joined Salem Baptist Church. For the past 30 years, she was the first lady of Lyells Chapel Baptist Church.
She was a graduate of A.T. Johnson High School and took continuing education courses during her summer breaks. Naomi worked for the Westmoreland County school system for 35 years.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Naomi leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 59 years, Pastor James L. Johnson; seven daughters, Yvonne Thurston (Lonnie), Patricia Johnson, Gloria Jones, Edith Gray (Lewis), Thelma Johnson-Gillison (Robert), Irene Saunders (Larry) and Gracie Byrd (George); 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters; seven brothers; one aunt; nine sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral was held Friday, Nov. 16, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Montross. Interment was in the Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery.
