Wilbur Willis Slaughter, Sr., a lifelong resident of Mullins, S.C. passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Westmoreland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Colonial Beach, where he was lovingly, attentively and professionally cared for by the staff for the past 5 years. Following the death of his beloved daughter, Joan Slaughter Quinn, Columbia, S.C. in June 2008, he moved to the home of his son, Willis (Pam) Slaughter in Colonial Beach.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Willie Gertrude McDonald of Columbia; his parents Ida Mae Smith Slaughter of Mullins, S.C. and John Kerr Graves Slaughter of Danville; 2 sisters, a brother; and most of his very large family in Mullins.
He is survived by his son and and loving daughter-in-law, Willis and Pam Slaughter of Colonial Beach; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; 5 nephews and 3 remaining first cousins.
He loved his God, his Church, his family, his friends, his home, his home town, people, music, fishing and his garden. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, Military Police Battalion, Intelligence Company D, AGF Replacement Depot # 1, Ft. Meade, MD.
Funeral arrangements are by Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George and Lee Funeral Home, S.C.
Graveside services were held in the Cedardale Cemetery, Mullins, S.C. on Saturday, April 6. The Rev. Kem Thomas, Macedonia United Methodist Church, Mullins, officiated the service
