William Kenneth Parcell

William Kenneth “Ken” Parcell, 77, formerly of Fredericksburg and Fairview Beach, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, in Torrance, CA, where he resided for more than 47 years.

Ken was born and raised in Fredericksburg, and was the son of the late Raymond and Irene Parcell. He graduated from James Monroe High School, Class of 1953, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Class of 1958, with a degree in business administration, whereupon he received his commission as an officer in the U.S. Army.

After his tour of duty, he returned to Fredericksburg to work for the Sylvania plant, American Viscose Corp. He was a member of Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge 4.

In 1966 Ken joined his brother Ray “Jack” in California and began a 23-year career in program and business management and security for Hughes Aircraft Co./Radar Systems Group in El Segundo.

After retirement Ken turned his attention to the day-to-day operations and management of the apartment building he owned on the Esplanade in Redondo Beach, CA, and enjoyed extensive domestic and international travel with his wife, family and friends.

Ken was an active participant in and philanthropist for many charitable and political organizations in Southern Calif., including Angel Flight West, an organization that arranges free non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions, for which his brother Ray volunteered as a pilot; and Republican Party candidate fundraising and the Young Republicans organization, for which he was honored by induction three times on the Donor Wall at the Reagan Ranch, Santa Barbara, CA. He was a member of the Torrance El Toga Shrine Club.

Ken is survived by his wife, Delores, of Torrance; and stepdaughter Kimberly Box of AZ; cousins William Kelley and Robert Kelley of Stafford County; Patricia Wallace and Joyce Sexton of Richmond; Tom Parcell of Calabash, NC; Karen Parcell Kehoe of Bradenton, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 1974 and brother Ray in 2006.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Angel Flight West, 3161 Donald Douglas Loop South, Santa Monica, CA. 90405.
