Janet Gail Lemons Detwiler

Janet Gail Lemons Detwiler, 60, of Colonial Beach, Virginia, died peacefully at Mary Washington Hospice on May 2, 2013 after a long illness.  

Born in Arlington, Virginia, she attended Sullins College, Bristol, VA and Washington Business School She

worked as an executive secretary and paralegal in the Northern Virginia area.  She was the daughter of Joseph W. and Isabel Hoff Lemons of Vienna, VA.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Detwiler, of Colonial Beach, formerly of Fairfax County, her daughter Alissa Detwiler of Colonial Beach, VA, her son Joseph Sturgill of Chantilly, VA; a brother Donald Lemons and sister-in-law Carol Lemons, of Nellysford, VA; two stepsons, Bill Detwiler of Bristow, VA, and Jim Detwiler, of Tampa, FL; 2 grandsons, Stephen and Christopher Detwiler; an uncle, Jim Lemons, of Omaha, NE,  and a number of beloved nieces, a nephew and cousins.

A memorial service was held in her honor at Covenant Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, VA on Sunday, May 5,  followed by burial on May 6 at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, VA.

Memorial gifts in Janet’s name may be made to the ASPCA, or to your choice of  a local animal shelter or animal rescue organization.
