Calvin Thorpe, 87, of Colonial Beach passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Mary Washington Hospital. He was the husband of Frances Benson Thorpe for sixty years.
Born in Alexandria, VA, he was the son of the late Columbus and Lillian Lloyd Thorpe. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Rollins Fork.
Calvin was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He was also an accomplished and generous gardener.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Thorpe is survived by one son, Kenneth Thorpe (Marsha) of Colonial Beach, three daughters, Bonnie Spinger (Roger) of Key Largo, FL, Sharon Matthews (Tim) of Abingdon, and Katherine Gonzales (Michael) of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Dawn Morris (Alan) and Shanna Williams (Ryan) both of Chester, Christopher Gonzales and Angela Gonzales, both of Fredericksburg, as well as numerous cousin, nieces, and nephews. Mr. Thorpe also leaves behind his faithful companion, Winky.
Mr. Thorpe was preceded in death by his sons Douglas Thorpe and Terry Thorpe.
The family will receive friends at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in Colonial Beach on Thursday, June 6, from 6-7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Karen Petersen officiating.
Interment will be held Friday, June 7, at 11 a.m. in Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, VA. Pallbearers are James Giblin, Richard Thorpe, Larry Benson, Paul Benson, Jr., Ron Morgan, and Earl King. Honorary pallbearers are Tim Matthews, Christopher Gonzales, Michael Gonzales, Lowell Thorpe, Alan Morris, and Ryan Williams.
