Ruth Herrink, publisher of The Journal for almost 30 years, died early this morning at Mary Washington Hospital.
We at The Journal always said that Ruth would go out with her boots on and that is pretty much what she did. Ruth was in the office last Sunday working the Oct. 9 edition of the paper. She fixed dinner and talked to her family about her ideas and plans for the future. She was in full "Ruth" form.
Monday morning she was found unresponsive.
We, her family gave her a chance to come back to us, because she was so full of life the evening before. But it was not to be. We finally had to let her go early Saturday morning, Oct. 12.
She died surrounded by her three daughters, Sarah Ailey, Beverly Klunk and Jessica Herrink, as she was in this photo taken earlier this year. And her granddaughter Meredith Wolfe. Her granddaughter Cynthia Ailey Darago and her great-granddaughter Veronica Darago had been with her earlier in the evening.
Those who knew Ruth knew that she recited the 23rd psalm. Her cup was full to overflowing throughout her 87 years. She will be greatly missed by her family and by those who thought of her as family.
