Barbara L. McGinn

Barbara L. McGinn, 87, of King George County passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

Barbara was born in Limerick, Maine. She was a former secretary of the Bridgewater Republican Town Committee.

She is survived by two sons, Michael E. McGinn of King George and Richard G. McGinn of Sagamore Beach, MA; a sister, Irene Farwell of Mashpee, MA; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Richard Henry McGinn.

Burial will be private and held at a later date in Bourne, MA.

Thomas Gene Lauterbach

Thomas Gene Lauterbach, 67, a native of Dayton, Ohio, (also known as “Uncle Tom,” “Uncle Pumpkin” and “Doedoe Pig”) passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, in King George County.

Born Feb. 10, 1945, Tommy was a 1963 graduate of Chaminade High School and married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Miller Lauterbach, in 1966. Tom received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Dayton.

Tom loved spending time with his family, playing cards, genealogy, golfing and designing latch hook rugs. His sense of humor was unparalleled.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 46 years; his four children; and his five granddaughters. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial services will be held at Ascension Church in Kettering, OH, at a later date.

Raymond A. Lightfoot

Raymond A. Lightfoot, 77, of Montross passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012.

A service was held at noon Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Weldon-Fisher Funeral Home Chapel, Warsaw. Interment will be Thursday, Sept. 13, in National Harmony Memorial Park Cemetery, Landover, MD.

Maude Herbert Conway

Maude Herbert Conway, 95, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Norfolk on June 1, 1917. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to an extensive family. Her life centered around her family and many friends. She was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church for more than 60 years. She had retired from the Fredericksburg Welcome Center.

Her husband, James A. Conway Sr., predeceased her in 1976.

She is survived by her three children, Mary C. Berry (Thomas), of Westmoreland County; James A. Conway Jr. and his companion, Diep Taylor, of Tappahannock; and Richard E. Conway (Peggy), of Fredericksburg. Her grandchildren include Cathleen B. Nickerson (Steve) of Triangle; Scott E. Berry (Donna) of Norfolk; Elizabeth A.C. Dabney (Beau) of Ashland; Christopher P. Conway of Richmond; and Virginia A. Conway of Richmond. She had seven great-grandchildren: Ashby and Raya Nickerson; Grace, Molly Maude and Kate Berry; and Kathryn and Turner Dabney; and many special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at St. George’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be private

Alice McGinniss Howland

Alice McGinniss Howland, 94, of King George County died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Born in Index, she was the daughter of Hampton and Peachie McGinniss.

Mrs. Howland was a native and lifelong resident of King George. She was the widow of Fleet G. Howland and was a caring and loving mother and “Nane.” Mrs. Howland taught in elementary schools in King George and Colonial Beach and at Woodland Academy. After her retirement from teaching, she worked in the King George registrar’s office.

She was a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Wakefield Chapter 77 in Colonial Beach, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and AARP.

She is survived by son Glenwood Howland (Brenda); two daughters, Gloria DeLoach (Dewayne “Chick”) and Mary Virginia “Ginny” Powell (Joe), all of King George; six grandchildren, Glenda, Angela, Christopher, Jeffrey, Wendy and Jason; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by granddaughter Lisa Hopper.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Shiloh Baptist Church, King George, with burial following in the church cemetery. The Rev. Mike Jessee will officiate.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Shiloh Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, 13457 Kings Highway, King George, Va. 22485.

Mamie Shelton Wilkerson

Mamie Shelton Wilkerson, 88, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012.

She was born in Stafford County and was a longtime resident of Colonial Beach.

She was predeceased by Burton A. Wilkerson, her husband of  more than 39 years. 

The couple met while working at the U.S. Naval Proving Ground at Dahlgren during World War II, and were later married. 

Mamie was also preceded in death by her daughter Joyce W. Fulks.

She is survived by daughter Patricia W. Trammel (Marshall), of Chester; two  grandsons Alan A. Trammel of Brooklyn, NY, and William I. White Jr. and his wife, Dorothee, both of Moyock, N.C.; son-in-law Gerald Fulks of Amherst; niece and caregiver, Margaret Hiner of Colonial Beach. 

She will also be missed by many other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, with a service beginning at 11 a.m. 

Interment will follow in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mamie to Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, Box 189, Colonial Beach, VA 22443.

Carlos Uriel Buron

Carlos Uriel Buron, 44, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Carlos was a mechanical engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren. 

He was an amazing father, loving husband and thoughtful son. Carlos was a Cub Scout den leader and soccer coach. 

He loved cycling and was a grill master. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie M. Buron; son Christian Buron; daughters Sophia Buron and Natalie Buron, all of Fredericksburg; parents Antonio L. and Irma M. Buron of Corry, PA.; brother Enrique Buron (Jennifer) of Dublin, Ohio; brother-in-law Scott Bethke (Liona); sisters-in-law Kim Bellafiore (Tom) and Keri Geibler (Billy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Another service will held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Corry, PA. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pearl Mae Sanford Sydnor

Pearl Mae Sanford Sydnor, 72, of Montross, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012.  

She was a retired bank teller with 42 years of service and retired from The Bank of Lancaster. 

She was a life member of Providence United Methodist Church and a life member of Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary. 

She was born on April 24, 1940 to the late Harvey and Geneva Sanford.  

She is survived by her wonderful husband, William A. “Billy” Sydnor, and a sister Virginia L. Sanford of Montross.  Also surviving are nieces, Sheila S. Clark (Curtis), Charlotte Balderson (Elwyn); nephews William E. Hinson (Diane), all of Montross, and Charles L. Hinson (Judy), of Warsaw;  great nieces, Christy Crabbe (Ronnie), Stephanie Jones (Brad), Pamela Clark and great nephew, C. W. Clark; great great niece Madison Jones and great great nephew Brody Jones, sisters in law Elsie Nash (Russell) and Betty Foley both of Montross, devoted friend and little sister, Ruth Packett (Stanley) and many other friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Providence United Methodist Church, Chiltons, VA.  The family received friends on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Montross Chapel of Welch Funeral Home.
