Area Deaths - August 22, 2012

Tanya R. Davis Allen

Tanya R. Davis Allen, 35, of Dahlgren passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at her residence.

She was a 1995 graduate of King George High School and had been the first assistant manager at McDonald’s in Dahlgren for the past 12 years.

Survivors include her mother, Corine Johnson of King George County; her father, Lloyd Harvey Jr. of King George; her husband, Brad Allen of Dahlgren; three daughters, Danesha Hill, Shania Allen and Ziásia Allen, and two sons, Qúshaun and Kevon Allen, all of Dahlgren; her paternal grandmother, Mary Betty Harvey of King George; two sisters, Lashon Johnson and Casey Johnson, both of King George; and brother Theodore “Ted” Harvey of Woodbridge.

A funeral was held Friday, Aug. 17, at Little Ark Baptist Church in Owens, with the Rev. Donnell Howard as eulogist and the Rev. Larry Robinson, pastor. Burial was in Union Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.

Terry Lynn DiRosario

Terry Lynn DiRosario, 53, of Colonial Beach passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

Terry was a very talented person who loved her family very much. She was kind to everyone she met. She was a member of the Ladies Fraternal Order of Eagles and a former member of the Colonial Beach School Board.

Terry is survived by her husband, Wayne DiRosario of Colonial Beach; a daughter, Melissa Brewster of Colonial Beach; a son, Ricky Brewster (Anita), of Colonial Beach; her father, Harry Wimpling, (Bev), of PA; four sisters, Kathleen Lunsford (Chunky Sears), Christina L. Morgen (Tommy), Kimberly Shackelford Bertuzzi (Michael), and Robin Clark; a brother, Stuart Wimpling, (Dianna); mother-in-law Pearl P. DiRosario of Colonial Beach; sister in law Penny DiRosario of Colonial Beach; 10 grandchildren, Briana, Calan, Victoria, Hunter, Erica, Mark, Brittany, Matthew, Eva and Wesley; and great-grandson Jonathan.Terry was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Fay Coates Wimpling.

Terry’s funeral was held on Monday, Aug. 20, at New Life Ministries, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. Denise Marth officiating. Interment followed in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

Marlene Dewey

Marlene Dewey, 74, of Colonial Beach passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at her home.

She was a homemaker.

Marlene is survived by three sons, Scott Dewey (Katy), of Waldorf, MD, Charles Pasquernall of Saratoga, NY, and Tim Dewey of Jacksonville, FL; sister Beverly Gardner (Jim), of Frostburg, MD; and two grandsons, Darin and Nathan Dewey.

A committal service was held Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.

Grealdine Francis Shelton

Geraldine Francis Shelton, 85, of King George County passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012.

She is survived by her sons, Walter W. Shelton Jr. (Judy) and James A. Shelton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Thursday, Aug. 16, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, where the funeral was held Friday, Aug. 17. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Joseph Cleveland Frank, Jr.

Joseph Cleveland Frank Jr., 55, of King George County died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mr. Frank was a native of King George. He retired as a vocational teacher with the King George County school system and he was a lifelong farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Frank; son Joseph Frank III; daughter Crystal Ackerman (Jake); and his mother, Shirley June Frank.

He was predeceased by his father, Joseph C. Frank Sr.

A private graveside service was held Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Frank-Lee family cemetery, with the Rev. Randolph Allensworth, officiating.

Sharon Brand Zwicker

Sharon Brand Zwicker, 54, of King George County, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012.

She had retired as a deputy sheriff for King George in 2009 after 28 years of service. She was later rehired as a part-time deputy. She formerly had been with the Colonial Beach Police Dept. for four years. 

She was the first female deputy for both King George and Colonial Beach. 

She was a member of the Sheriffs’ Association and Westmoreland Independent Baptist Church.

She was a daughter of the late Donald C. and Jean A. Brand.

She is survived by her husband Morgan Zwicker;  two children, Morgan Zwicker Jr. and Chauncey Zwicker, both of King George; four sisters, Glenda Gutridge, Jeannie LiCalzi, Pamela Ambrose Hale and Donna Bourne; two brothers, Donald C. Brand Jr. and Robert L. Brand; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in King George. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at the church with Pastor Robert Warnick officiating. Interment will be in Historyland Memorial Park, King George, with sheriff’s office honors.

Clyde Lee “C.L.” Gray, Jr.

Clyde Lee “C.L.” Gray Jr. 79, of King George County passed away suddenly on Monday, August 20, 2012 while vacationing with family in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

C.L. was born in Westmoreland County on May 5, 1933 and was known for his generosity. He was baptized at Montague Baptist Church in King George. 

C.L. farmed, worked at Beck’s Chevrolet in Fredericksburg, and served in the U.S. Army. He later retired from the Dahlgren Naval Facility after many years of service where he assisted with munitions testing. 

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, loyal friend and family man. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 4123 and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the American Legion.

C.L. is survived by his wife, Ann R. Gray; two daughters, Susan L. Gray and her companion, Duke McBroom, Cheryl Gray Dees (John); two sons, Stephen L. Gray (Betty), Timothy Hall (Tammy); a sister, Christine DeBruyn; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Lee Gray Sr. and Elizabeth Balderson Gray; a brother, James Horace Gray..

The family will have a visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 24 at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dennis Newton officiating. 

Interment will follow in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

Betty Lou Clift

Betty Lou Clift of King George, VA, has died of injuries received from a motor vehicle accident.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, and will be handled by Nash and Slaw Funeral Home.
