Area Deaths - August 15, 2012

Betty L. King

Betty L. King, 84, of King George County passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Betty is survived by daughter Lori Frye (J.R.), of King George; son Brad King of Spotsylvania; sister Patsy Newville (Jean), of Utah; brother Wayne Howard (Judy) of Orange County; three grandchildren; Lorne King, Leah Frye and Floyd Frye III; two great-grandchildren, Dailynn Frye and Ezra Frye; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. King Sr.; and three sons, Robert F. King Jr., David King and Michael King.

The family received friends at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel-Cremation Service, Fredericksburg, where a service was held on Friday, Aug. 10, with the Rev. Jessie Booth officiating. Burial was private.

Patricia Deere Barker

Patricia Deere Barker, 82, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012.

Mrs. Barker was a founding member of Ferry Farm Baptist Church. 

She established Christian nursery education in the Fredericksburg area, and was the owner of Humpty Dumpty Nursery School for more than 30 years. She was the widow of Grenville H. Barker and was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremiah Von Poyck.

Survivors include two children, Lynne Poyck (Arthur) of Fredericksburg and Phillip H. Barker (Terri), of King George.

A service was held Thursday, Aug. 9, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to the SPCA, 10819 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA22408.

Susan Anne Kandetzki

Susan Anne Kandetzki, 57, of Spotsylvania County died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at University of Virginia Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Michael O. Kandetzki; two children, Michelle Crist (Gary) and Michael Kandetzki, all of Spotsylvania; three grandsons, Noah, Ryan and Gabriel; mother Marilyn E. Duncan of Warsaw; brother James Teller of Warsaw; four sisters, Joyce Bako of Fredericksburg, Jill Barrett of Salem, Martha Goratsas of King George and Joanne Williams of Warsaw; and several nieces, nephews and great-nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her father, James E. Teller; sister Annette Divine; grandmother Geraldine McCreary and her stepfather, Jack Duncan.

A service was  held Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Covenant Funeral Home. Entombment followed in Laurel Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Garnette E. Purce

Garnette E. Purce, 81, of Colonial Beach passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at her residence.

Survivors include two daughters, Audrey Branson of Colonial Beach and Victoria Wise of Montross; four sons, Clayton Purce of King George County, Randy Purce of Alexandria, Rodney Purce of Waldorf, MD, and Lindsay Purce of Colonial Beach; stepdaughter Joyce Pratt of King George; stepsons Jerry Newman of Colonial Beach and Frankie Newman of New York; 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Little Zion Baptist Church, Oak Grove, with the Rev. Earl Howerton officiating. 

Cedell Brooks Funeral Home of Port Royal is handling the arrangements.

Joseph Anderson Wilson

Joseph Anderson Wilson of Colonial Beach, a native Washingtonian, retired D.C. Firefighter, Engine 25, and Naval Korean War Veteran died on Wednesday, Aug. 8,2012 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA.

The beloved husband of Betty S. Wilson of 52 years; devoted and loving father of John B. Wilson (Judie) and Melanie Wilson Heatley (Carl); caring and loving grandfather of Chelsea, Dylan and Sydney Heatley : brother-in-law of Edna  Edmondson and Lloyd Sydnor.

Joseph’s Life Celebration was held   on Monday Aug. 13, 2012 at George P. Kalas Funeral Home Oxon Hill, Md. Interment Ft Lincoln Cemetery.
