John H. Davis

John H. Davis Jr., 85, of Colonial Beach passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Born and educated in Lancaster County and Lively schools, he served his country in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific Theater.

In 1955 he married Phyllis V. Hudgins. Prior to opening Circle Supermarket, he worked for many years with Safeway and Richfood. He was an active community supporter, giving freely of his time and resources. He loved to serve wherever needed as a deacon at Round Hill Baptist Church

John loved hunting, fishing and spending time on his farm. He was a dedicated husband, a loving father and a cherished grandfather

John is survived by his wife, Phyllis H. Davis, of the home; three sons, John C. Davis (Carolyn), of King George, John Steen (Darline), of Jacksonville, FL, and Gary Steen of Silver Spring, MD; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John’s funeral was held Friday, Aug. 3, at Round Hill Baptist Church, King George, with the Rev. Ted James officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

John Geary Scott

John Geary Scott, 86, of Fredericksburg died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Hughes Home.

Mr. Scott was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served as a submariner in the South Pacific during World War II. He had retired from Underwriters Laboratories and was a member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church in King George County.

Survivors include his daughter, Tina Critzer (Harry), of Stafford County; four grandchildren, Christopher Scott Critzer and Justin Michael Critzer, both of Stafford County, Benjamin Baker Scott of Lafayette, Ore., and Dorene Scott Schwarz of Klamath Falls, OR; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Doris Ball Scott; and a son, John Ball Scott.

A funeral was held Friday, Aug. 3, at Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Dorothy F. Gallahan

Dorothy F. Gallahan, 90, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Greenfield Assisted Living of Stafford.

Mrs. Gallahan was a lifelong resident of Fredericksburg and spent her summers in Fairview Beach.

She was a lifelong member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Elsie Perry Sunday school class and taught children’s Sunday school. She was a volunteer at Mary Washington Hospital, and had retired from the People’s Bank of Stafford.

Mrs. Gallahan was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Gallahan; parents George and Lillie Fleming; and sister Eulalia Siock.

Survivors include her daughters, Connie A. Gallahan of King George and Aleta G. Wilcher (Marvin), of Ashland; two grandchildren, Brian A. Verburg of Richmond and Michelle L. Halpin (Kevin), of Fredericksburg; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Monday, Aug. 6, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. J. Larry Haun officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Fredericksburg Baptist Church Building Fund, 1019 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, VA, 22401.

Charles P. Southall

Charles P. Southall, 70, of King George County passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, in King George.

Charles was a former employee of King George County schools and Mount Rose Pickle Factory, King George.

He is survived by his wife, Janet P. Southall, of the home; two daughters, Gail Rollins (Todd), of Caroline County and Norma J. Southall of the home; two sisters, Ida Lee Robinson of Dahlgren and Rebecca Horton of Fredericksburg; and brother Hobert Southall of King George.

A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 6, at Montague Baptist Church, King George, with the Rev. Kenneth Brooks and the Rev. Larry Widener officiating.

M. Fisher Kee

M. Fisher Kee, 97, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012.

Fisher was born June 23, 1915, in Roane County, WV. He was a 1939 graduate of Morris Harvey College, now known as the University of Charleston. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and was a World War II veteran. Fisher retired in 1973 from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture as head of the inspection branch. He was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, serving as junior and senior warden and as a trustee of the church.

Fisher is survived by his daughter Juli Grimes (Ray), of Seattle, WA; a son, Greg Kee (Sue), of Colonial Beach; brothers E.B. Kee Jr. of Charleston, WV, and Carlyle Kee of Southport, NC.; sister Patricia Prowse of Cleves, OH; one granddaughter; four grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Packard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

William Latham Davenport

William Latham Davenport, 96, of Stafford County passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at The Crossings at Falls Run.

Mr. Davenport was a member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was often an usher. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Audrey Belman Davenport; and his niece, Janice Walker.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Billy Baker, Matthew Schwartz, Sherman Coates, Robert Belman, Matthew Belman, David Belman and Robert Elswick.

Memorials may be made in his name to Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 8330 Fletcher’s Chapel Road, King George, VA,22485.

James “Alex” Brown

James “Alex” Brown, 86, of King George County passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Bowling Green Health Care Center.

Survivors include sister Emma Cole of Bowling Green; and three nephews, William and Raymond Cole and Valee Coghill.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal. A viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Betty L. King, 84, of King George County died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
