Area Deaths - July 11, 2012

Marion Wilson Rose

Marion Wilson Rose, 90, of Stafford County passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at Westmoreland Rehab and Healthcare.

Mr. Rose was a native of Stafford, and son of the late Scott and Amy Rose. He was a graduate of Falmouth High School. Mr. Rose served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945 and received a Bronze Star. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Mr. Rose had retired from civil service as a heating plant operator at Marine Corps Base Quantico.

He was a longtime member and former deacon of Fairview Baptist Church. Mr. Rose loved sports and was an accomplished duckpin bowler. He was an avid fisherman, played on several area baseball and softball teams and worked with the Boy Scouts for several years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Rogers Rose; four sisters; and five brothers.

Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Bradley (Tom) of King George County; his beloved granddaughter, Heather Bradley of King George; sister Kathrine “Dolly” Jensen (Stanley) of Falmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Thursday, July 5, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service was held Friday, July 6, at the funeral home chapel. Burial with military honors followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Wayne Arthur Reid

Wayne Arthur Reid, 67, of Fredericksburg passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Wayne was raised in Woodbridge, where he was a member of the O.W.L. Fire Department for a short time in the 1960s. He subsequently moved to Fredericksburg and was a longtime automotive painter, working at Purvis Ford for the past 15 years. Wayne was an avid deer hunter, drag racer and classic car collector.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Reid; sons Justin Reid (Valerie) of King George County and Corey Reid (Courtney) of Fredericksburg; nine grandchildren; father Charles Reid of Woodbridge; and cousin Ann Lindsey Burdette of Woodbridge.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Marie Reid.

A memorial service was held Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel.

Memorials may be made in his name to Falmouth Fire Department, Box 5056, Falmouth, VA, 22403.

Margaret Haag

Margaret Haag, 87, of Fredericksburg passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at her residence.

A service was held Tuesday, July 10, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Interment will be at a later date.

The family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either the Falmouth or King George volunteer fire and rescue departments.

Dennis R. Conner

Dennis R. Conner, 88, of Palm City, Fl. died Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Gardens Retreat in Palm City.

Born in Shalmar, MD, Dennis had been a resident of Palm City for over 30 years, coming from Colonial Beach. Before retiring, Dennis was an entrepreneur  with many businesses in both Maryland and Virginia. One of which was the Aqualand Complex in Charles County, MD. He also was a accomplished pilot.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Leslie M. Conner of Palm City; a sister, Louise Owens of Palm City; and a brother, Leo Conner of Hobe Sound, FL.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Conner; brothers Raymond, Delbert, Howard and Paul Conner and a sister, Shirley Garrett.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. The service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with interment following at Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Street, Stuart, Fl, 34997.
