Norman Edward Stepney
Norman Edward Stepney, 71, of Port Royal passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Norman was born July 13, 1940, in King George and worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years.
He is survived by daughters, Brenda Cannon of Centreville, Janet Brown of Fredericksburg and Stephanie Stepney-Sciascia of King George; one son, Norman E. Stepney Jr. of San Bernardino, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Frye; his father, James Peyton; and daughter Maria Stepney.
There was a service Friday, Jan. 13, at the First Baptist Church of Ambar, King George, with the Rev. William Frye officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations be made to the Kidney Foundation or Mary Washington Hospice.

Penny B. Coleman
Penny B. Coleman, 69, of Fredericksburg passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mrs. Coleman was a native of Fredericksburg and the daughter of the late Harold Doggett and Frances Snellings Brown. She was a graduate of James Monroe High School.
She was the widow of Carlton C. Coleman and was preceded in death by a brother, Sammy B. Brown.
Survivors include her two sons; Steven C. Coleman (Karen), of King George and Mark S. Coleman of Fredericksburg; and one sister, Lisabeth B. Graninger of Fredericksburg.
No memorial service is planned. Burial will be private.

William H. Green, Jr.
William H. Green, Jr. of Tappahannock, VA, departed this life Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital.
He is survived by his son, Leroy S. Green of Tappahannock, his daughter, Fay R. Nance of Millersville, MD, and one brother, James Henry Green of Spotsylvania.
The funeral service was held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Supply. The Reverend Irvin Woolfolk, Pastor officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Elaine M. McCullough
Elaine M. McCullough, 68, of King George County passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Elaine was born and raised in PA, and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in King George. She was a gentle soul who always saw the good in everyone and was happiest when she was helping others.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 42 years, John M. McCullough of the home; a daughter, Jane M. McCullough of San Diego, CA; two sons, John J. McCullough (Leslie), of King George and Michael G. McCullough (Rebekah), of Moorefield, WV ; and three grandchildren, Isabel and Olivia of King George and Aubrey of Moorefield.
The funeral was held Sunday, Jan. 15, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, with the Rev. Terry Naumann officiating.
Interment was Monday, Jan. 16, in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA.

Patsy Young Hawker
Patsy Young “Pat” Hawker, 77, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Hawker had retired from Central Fidelity Bank, originally Rappahannock Savings and Loan. She was the daughter of the late William D. and Katherine McGhee Young and was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Evans Niemann.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne D. Hawker; her two sons, Marc S. Pritchett (Barbara), of Juneau, AK, and Craig A. Pritchett (Lillian), of Spotsylvania County; two stepsons, Darren M. Hawker (Tonya), of Mechanicsville and Mark S. Hawker (Kelly), of Richmond; her brother, William D. Young Jr. of Waldorf, Md.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her very close friends Grady and Terry Stout of Fredericksburg and Bob and Suzanne Marshall of King George County.
The family received friends Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.

Alice Gertrude Zorn
Alice Gertrude Zorn, 86, of King George County passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mrs. Zorn was a member of Two Rivers Baptist Church and sang in its choir.
Survivors include her son, Reggie Zorn (Debbie); her daughter, Karen Smith (Casey); her sisters, Burnley “Sparky” Grady and Grace Shelton; her grandchildren, Reggie “Sport” Zorn (Sally), Danny Good (Deanna), Mark Good (Kristin), Kimberly Perkins (Tom), John Burgess (Bridget), Zachary Zorn and Kelli Zorn; 17 great-grandchildren; her caregivers, Tenessa Shank, Cherika Cole and Vivian Shank; and her dog, Max.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Coleman Zorn, and her brothers, William J. Fines, Vernon Reed Fines and Kenneth Hall “Jim” Fines.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens,

Thomas “Wayne” Garnett
Thomas “Wayne” Garnett, 62, of King George County passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
Wayne was a graduate of King George High School (1968) and joined the United States Air Force shortly after. He was a Vietnam War veteran and worked as a construction worker in Louisiana before returning to King George where he continued to work construction.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Garnett.
Wayne is survived by a brother, John F. Garnett (Vickie), of King George; two sisters, Gloria Burrell (Buddy), of King George, and Laura Sumner of Orlando, FL; one aunt, Virgie Farmer of Fredericksburg; two uncles, Aubrey Green and Kelly Green both of King George; four nieces and four nephews; five great nieces and six great nephews; family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Edna L. Bredland
Edna L. Bredland, 89, died Wednesday, January 12, 2012 in Silver Spring, MD. She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Andrew Bredland and her granddaughter, Tammy Murray.
Born in Missouri, she graduated from business school, moved to Washington DC and worked at the Department of war. She married and spent the remainder of her life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her son Bruce Bredland (Kathy), of Laurel, MD; her daughter, Drue Murray, of Colonial Beach, VA; grandchildren, Patrick (Alice), Colleen (Andrew), Daniel (Maureen), Sarah and Christopher (Nichol); and great grandchildren, Suzanna, Hailey, Cadence, Samuel, and Alexana.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Riderwood, Oak Grove, 3160 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD, 20904. The inurnment service at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled for a later date.
