Area Deaths - November 16, 2011

Walter G. Pierce

Walter G. “Watermelon” Pierce, 49, of Colonial Beach passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at VCU Medical Center, Richmond.
Survivors include his wife, Renita; his mother, Rose Jeannette Pierce; three sons, James Johnson, Alonzo Smith and Walter Johnson; two daughters, Latoya King and Mataya Johnson; five brothers, Otis Johnson, retired Sgt. 1st Class Rydell Pierce, Lewis Johnson, William Pierce and Randolph Brown; seven sisters, Selinda Owens, Evelyn McDowney, Laura Quarterman, Ross Ann Bumbrey, Stella Campbell, Angela Newman and Staff Sgt. Lecola Pierce.
A viewing was held Thursday, Nov. 10, at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal.
The service was held Friday, Nov. 11, at First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. David Cunningham officiating.
Burial followed in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

Robert Lawrence Brown

Robert Lawrence Brown, 89, of King George County passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Arrangements are incomplete at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Fredericksburg.

Parran David Abell

Parran David “P. D.” Abell, 53, of King George County passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at his home.
Born Jan. 22, 1958, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Mary E. “Nancy” Abell of Indian Head, MD, and the late Parran C. Abell.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Terry; one son, Jason Elliot; three daughters, Kelsy Leigh, Elyse Cecil and Aldyn Frances; two sisters, Patti Belknap (Dale), of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Joni Settle and her husband, Wayne, of LaPlata, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
Raised in Indian Head, P. D.  graduated from Lackey High School in 1976. P. D. owned and operated his own construction business throughout his career.
As a skilled carpenter and mason, he used his talents to frame residential homes throughout Southern Maryland before moving to King George, where he built custom homes.
Married for 27 years, he was a loving family man who enjoyed being outdoors, working on his farm and hunting.
The family received friends Sunday, Nov. 13, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. A funeral was held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, King George, Monday, Nov. 14, followed by burial at the family property.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA, 22407.

Jesse B. Beverly

Jesse B. Beverly, 46, of Ruther Glen, formerly of King George County, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital. The date of death was incorrect in the earlier obituary. Cedell Brooks Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Diane Connelly Hunt

Diane Connelly Hunt, 49, of King George County passed away suddenly Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at MCV Hospital in Richmond.
Born March 7, 1962, in Fredericksburg, she was the wife of Ronald B. Hunt and the daughter of the late Marion P. Connelly Jr. and Mary Connelly.
In addition to her husband, Ronny, she is survived by her three sons, David, Matthew and Stephen Hunt of King George; her mother, Mary Connelly of Dahlgren; and her sisters, Debbie Gitlin of Stafford County and Brenda Hastings of King George.
Raised in King George, she graduated from Mary Washington College with degrees in math and physics. She was employed with URS at Dahlgren.
Married for almost 27 years, she was a wonderful, loving and caring wife and mother to her family.
She was very active with the community and church. She loved playing the piano, and played for a gospel quartet and as pianist for Oakland Baptist Church since the sixth grade. She was also a member of the Praise Team at Oakland.
Diane was always found wherever her boys were, whether it was at the baseball field, swimming pool, cross country field or keeping track of them at school.
She will be greatly missed and remembered by her family and friends.
The family received friends from Saturday, Nov. 12, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. A funeral was held Monday, Nov. 14, at Oakland Baptist Church, King George, with burial following in Oakland Baptist Church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Baptist Church, 5520 James Madison Parkway, King George, Va. 22485; or to a college fund to be set up for the boys.

Francis Taylor, IV

Francis “Bucky” Taylor IV, 72, of Colonial Beach passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Hagerstown, MD, Bucky retired from NSWC Dahlgren as an electronics technician after 36 years.
Bucky is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 24 years, Jean E. Taylor; a stepson, Jimmy Ferrell (Lori); two grandsons, Matthew and Christopher Ferrell; a granddaughter, Jamie Whitaker; two sisters, Sandra Fox and Sharon Totman; an aunt, Jean York; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Francis Taylor III; and a son, Francis Taylor V.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Grace United Methodist Church cemetery, Rollins Fork, with the Rev. Tom Jennings officiating.

J. Clifford Hutt

J. Clifford Hutt, age 91, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at his home in Nomini Grove, VA.
The family will receive guests at Welch Funeral Home, Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 from 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Nomini Grove, Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Daniel O. Teyhen

Daniel O. Teyhen, 71, of King George County passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Mary Washington Hospital.  His death was the result of a recent stroke.
He is survived by daughter Kim Jones, and sons Gary Teyhen, Michael Teyhen, and Daniel P. Teyhen; stepson Dean Hoagland; and grandchildren, Christopher, Robert, Matthew, Ashley, Samantha, John Patrick, Joseph, Danielle; and step-granddaughter Kirstyn.
Originally from  Hunderton County, New Jersey, Dan lived and worked in King George area for many years. He was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator and skilled excavator, working mainly in King George and Westmoreland counties.
Dan leaves behind many loving friends in Stratford Harbour near Montross. He served on the Board of Directors of the Stratford Harbour HOA for the past several years.  He was known for his willingness to volunteer his skills and labor for the community, and kept close ties with friends and neighbors through daily visits.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 20, at Stratford Harbour Clubhouse, 2657 N. Independence Dr., Montross, VA.

Cora Louise Heislup

Cora Louise Heislup, 81, of Colonial Beach died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011.
She had retired as a ranger for Outdoor World Resort in Oak Grove. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the VFW Auxiliary and had devoted many hours of public service to the community.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria D. McCauley (Roger), of Free Union, Lois Marie White (Billy), of Alexandria, and Wanda L. Reed (Steve), of Colonial Beach; two sons, Julian David Heislup Jr. (Carol), of Free Union, and Stewart Patrick Heislup (Donna), of Colonial Beach; two brothers, Nobel and Harvey Stewart; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A special thank-you to her caregiver, Donna Heislup.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Historyland Memorial Park, King George.
Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George is in charge of arrangements.
