Roland M. Finney, Sr.
Roland M. Finney Sr., 78, of Fairview Beach in King George County passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Richmond after a long illness.
Mr. Finney was a U.S. Navy veteran; a life member of VFW Post 3103 and a member of American Legion Post 290. He had worked for Robert B. Payne for many years and retired as the co-owner of Foster Fuel and Cool. He also remodeled and built homes for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Hancy K. Finney; four children, Melvin R. Finney Jr. of Fairview Beach, Dorothy Mae Keaton (Carlos), of Fauquier County, Alvin Dale Finney of White Oak and Tracy Lee Finney of Fairview Beach; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Edith W. Shelton of Fredericksburg, Anna O. Finney of Quantico, Helen M. Wingo (Louie), of Florida and Virginia F. Garner (Bobby), of King George; two brothers, Charles R. Finney (Pauline), of Spotsylvania County and William L. Finney (Marion), of Stafford County; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elsie Finney; and two sisters, Mary E. Tingler and Celesta M. Powell.
A funeral was held Friday, July 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with the Rev. R. Kenneth Brooks officiating. Interment with military honors followed in Quantico National Cemetery.

Gladys Newman, 48, of Colonial Beach died June 29, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Services will be held at noon Thursday, July 7, at New Monrovia Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. McDowney officiating. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. to noon.

Susan J. Barrett
Susan J. Barrett, 58, of King George County passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at her residence.
Mrs. Barrett was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church. She was an LPN graduate of Fredericksburg School of Nursing and had worked for 20 years at Woodmont. Her most enjoyable time nursing was for Dr. Ryan Anderson at Pratt Medical Center. She was also a member of VFW 3103 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, George E. Barrett; her daughter, Crystal Barrett-Weeks of King George; her son, Gene Barrett (Lisa), of Oak Grove; her six grandchildren, Katie, Brittany, Summer, Mason, Bret and Damion; her brother, Phillip Teter of Fredericksburg; her sister, Sandra Weaver of Warrenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Joy Teter; and a brother, Michael Teter.
A gathering of family and friends was held Saturday, July 2, at the Covenant Funeral Home chapel in Fredericksburg, with Mr. Dalton Mallory offering the eulogy. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Eugene P. Pooley
Eugene P. Pooley, 82, of Colonial Beach died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Pooley was cremated.

A funeral was held Tuesday, July 5, at First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach.

Helen C. Okrasinski
Helen C. Okrasinski, 91, of Colonial Beach passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011, in Colonial Beach.
Born in Irvington, NJ, Mrs. Okrasinski was a homemaker and a former receptionist and co-owner of a family business with her late husband, Stanley Okrasinski, in Newark, NJ. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach, where she was with the ECW, a thrift shop volunteer and a lay Eucharistic minister.
Helen is the widow of Stanley A. Okrasinski.
She is survived by a son, the Rev. Dr. Ron Okrasinski of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Colonial Beach, and his wife, Claudette, both of Colonial Beach; a sister, Adele Wichowski of Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother, Joseph Gorny of Stuart, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jeremy Okrasinski (Melissa), of Fredericksburg, and Martha Okrasinski of Colonial Beach; and a great-granddaughter, Madeline Okrasinski of Fredericksburg.
She was preceded in death by her son Richard J. Okrasinski and her sister Lorraine Maiter.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Colonial Beach, with the Rt. Rev. David C. Jones, the Rev. Dr. Ron S. Okrasinski, the Rev. Kent Rahm and the Rev. Barbara Willis officiating. A reception will follow in the church parish hall. Burial will be private.

David Andrew Flemer, Sr.
David Andrew Flemer Sr., beloved husband of Alice Weir Flemer, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2011, at home in Ashburn.
He was the dear son of the late Lewis and Catherine Flemer; loving father of David Andrew Jr., Thomas Matthew and Samuel Marc; cherished grandfather of Grace Elizabeth, Nathaniel Thomas and Caitlyn Alexandra; and beloved brother of Lewis, Thomas, William and Susan.
David was born in Lancaster, PA. He grew up on the family farm, Walnut Hill in Oak Grove, VA. He attended Oak Grove High School and graduated from the College of William & Mary with a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry. He received his master’s in biology from the University of Richmond and his Ph.D. in zoology and aquatic ecology from Rutgers University.
A service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Oak Grove at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, with the Rev. Dr. Christopher Agnew presiding. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with visitation in the church’s parish hall.
