Margaret Lee Rodgers

Margaret Lee O’Bryhim Rodgers, 89, of Colonial Beach, formerly of Falmouth, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at her home.
Mrs. Rodgers was the widow of the late Albert C. Rodgers. She was preceded in death by her three children, Albert Wayne Rodgers, Deborah Jane Rodgers and Rodney Michael Rodgers.
Mrs. Rodgers was a lifelong member of Falmouth Baptist Church. She was also a member of VFW Post 3103 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her caregiver and the mother of her grandchildren, Shirley Hanks (Bill), of Colonial Beach; two grandchildren, Tammy Lynn Armstrong and her companion, Robert Waugerman, of Fredericksburg and Shawn Michael Rodgers (Cindy), of Fredericksburg; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Armstrong and Chelsie Rodgers; one great-great-grandson, Jayden Smith; and a daughter-in-law, Kerri Rodgers of Fredericksburg.
A funeral was held Friday, June 10, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Jack A. Marcom Jr. officiating. Entombment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Priscilla Jane Tinnell

Priscilla Jane Tinnell, 62, of Beaverdam died Wednesday, June 8, 2011.
Priscilla was a member of Rodes United Methodist Church in Afton. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed puzzles, especially Sudoku, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her family was very important to her.
Survivors include two sons, Tony Tinnell (Carrie), of Beaverdam and Mark Tinnell (Lauren), of Ruther Glen; two daughters, Lisa Tinnell of King George and Tara Krassner of Fredericksburg; her mother, Charlene Woodard of Beaverdam; the father of her children, J.T. Tinnell of Fredericksburg; brother Earl W. Woodard of Waynesboro; sister Loretta M. McKinney of Midlothian; and eight grandchildren, Megan, Amanda, Brian, Bethany, Sarah, James, Brooke and, soon, Riley.
Priscilla was preceded in death by her father, Earl E. Woodard; and brother Van O. Woodard.
A service was held Saturday, June 11, at Covenant Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Ken Delage officiating. Burial followed in Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville.

Barry Robert Nicholson

Barry Robert Nicholson, 62, of King George County died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at his home.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Bonnie Nicholson; his son, William E. Nicholson (Patricia); his father, Robert William Nicholson; and two sisters, Toni Kimmell and Mary Nicholson.
A funeral was held Saturday, June 11, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

James Arthur Woodmancy

James Arthur Woodmancy, 84, of King George County passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, with his family by his side at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Woodmancy was the former owner and operator of Paradise Estates Mobile Home Park. He was also a founding member of the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Ferne; her large family, who he referred to as “his” family; a menagerie of animals; and many cherished friends, to name a special few, Mary Lou Blue, James Hughes and Randy Pryor.
A memorial service was held  June 11, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Burial will be private.

John Michael Conaty

John Michael Conaty, 74, of Colonial Beach passed away Friday, June 10, 2011, at home.
John was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Anne Conaty; his children, Kevin M. Conaty (Jennifer),  Stacy C. Petry (William L.), and Adrienne Jones (Adam); his grandchildren, Adam M. Jones, Patrick W. Jones, Jessica A. Cole (Chance), J. Travis Heffler III, Sydney N. Petry, Jacob W. Petry, Elizabeth A. Conaty and Shane M. Conaty; a great-granddaughter, Addison G. Cole; a brother, Edward Conaty; and two sisters, Mary Estelle and Helen Crawbuck (C. Bruce). John was predeceased by a son, Paul G. Conaty.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, VA, 22443; or to a charity of one’s choice.

Donald “Don” Hill

Donald “Don” Hill of King George County passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Don was born in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 28, 1932, to the late John D. and Anna Naumann Hill.
He grew up in Dahlgren and graduated from King George High School in 1951. He attended Concordia Teachers College in Chicago before entering the U.S. Air Force. Don spent from March 1954 until February 1957 with the 6912th Radio Squadron Mobile in Landsberg, Germany. He worked in the computer field in both Washington, D.C., and Dahlgren until his retirement in 1988.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean Stone Hill; a son, John D. Hill (Cristi), of King George; two daughters, Linda Furman of King George and Candace Matsumoto (Alan), of Fishers, IN; four granddaughters, Tasha Matsumoto of Salt Lake City, UT, Carrie Matsumoto of Chicago, and Brooke Payne (Ernie),  and Hannah Briscoe (Scott), all of King George; and one great-grandson, Brayden Payne.

Don was a lifelong Redskins and Chicago Cubs fan. He was a charter member of Two Rivers Baptist Church in King George.
A memorial service was held  Tuesday, June 14, at Two Rivers Baptist Church, with the Rev. Peyton Wiltshire and the Rev. Richard Fink officiating.
Donations may be made to Two Rivers Baptist Church Mortgage Fund.
Jean would like to thank her church family for all their love and support during Don’s illness.

Edgar Newton

Edgar “Skinny Winks” Newton, 74, of King George County died Friday, June 10, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Survivors include his sister, Esther N. Stevens; his brother, Hilbert Newton; his loving caregivers, Samantha Popham and Christine “Tinka” Bast; and numerous extended-family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Canaan’s Faith Church of God, 1470 Forbes St., Falmouth, with the Rev. Timothy Dobson officiating.

Robert G. Henderson

Robert Gordon Henderson, Sr., 80, of King George, escaped the burdens of this world on Sunday, June 12, 2011.
Mr. Henderson owned and ran Henderson’s Grocery for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Kendall Henderson; his son, K. Lee Henderson; his sister, Virginia Henderson Whelan; his granddaughters, Jeannette Nestor, Susan Henderson and Bobbi Henderson; great granddaughters, Aly Henderson, Victoria Henderson and Mary Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula Henderson and Lettie Newton Henderson; his son, Robert “Bob” Henderson, Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Johannpeter and June Ware.
Visitation is  from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A memorial service will be held at 1p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the funeral home Chapel. Interment will be private.

Kenneth Mason Scruggs

Kenneth Mason Scruggs, 69, of Fredericksburg died Friday, June 10, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.
