John H. Morgan
John H. Morgan, 56, of King George County, died Sunday, May 15, 2011.
John was a life long resident of King George and devoted to his children and work.
John was a former member of Hanover Baptist Church and King George Ruritan Club, and was a partner in W & G Construction in Fredericksburg.
John was preceded in death by his parents W. Bates and Arra Morgan.
He is survived by five sons, John H. Morgan, Jr. (Laura), of Montross, Jason A. Morgan of Washington, DC, Nicholas B. Morgan, Christopher B. Morgan and Alexander P. Morgan of King George; his three grandchildren, Callie, Emily and Joshua Morgan; and one brother Melvin “Sandy” Morgan of Alexandria.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in King George, with Rev. Sherman Davis officiating.

Donald Allen Bassett
Donald Allen Bassett, 72, of Warsaw died Monday, May 9, 2011, at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.
Mr. Bassett had served in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired FBI special agent. He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI and an endowment member of the NRA. He held a master’s degree in crisis management.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Molly Bassett; his children, Kitty Haynes (Daniel), Deborah Bassett and Sheri Cooke (Bryan); his father, Edwin B. Bassett; his sister, Linda Haggard; and four grandchildren who called him “Sir.”
A memorial service was held Thursday, May 12, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. Interment followed in Quantico National Cemetery.

Charles Louis Starkey
Charles Louis “Pop” Starkey, 91, of King George County passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Charles was a retired VDOT employee.
He is survived by four daughters, Dorothy Leake (Leslie), Charlotte Wheeler (Gene), Marilyn Lett (George), and Tabatha Wilson (Brian); two sons, John Starkey (Barbara), and Timmy Starkey (Tammy); 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jean Starkey.
A funeral was held Friday, May 13, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, with the Rev. Richard Headley officiating. Interment followed in Shiloh Baptist Cemetery, King George.

Harold E. Stanford
Harold E. Stanford passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, at his home in Waldorf, MD.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma P. Stanford; five children, John O. Poindexter III, Joy L. Clay, Constance Byrd (Gerald), David L. Poindexter and Janice P. Williams (Gregory); a sister, Catherine Wright; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends gathered for a service at Little Ark Baptist Church in King George on Sat. May 14.

Daniel Vaughan Hutt, Sr.
Daniel Vaughan Hutt Sr., 74, of Montross departed this life on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
The family received friends Saturday, May 14, at the Montross Chapel of the Welch Funeral Home. A funeral was held Sunday, May 15, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

Richard A. Koch
Richard A. Koch, former resident of Jersey in King George County, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Air Force Village II in San Antonio.
A retired U.S. Navy commander, he had a blueberry farm in Jersey for several years before relocating to Texas. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the King George Ruritan Club, the Fredericksburg Royal Arch and Hudson Morris Masonic Lodge. He also served on the Tri-County Soil and Water Conservation Board.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughter Heidi Hodgens (David), of CA; son Arthur Koch of Washington; and granddaughter Elkiya Menes of Dublin, Ireland.
A graveside service was held at Monday, May 23, in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Grace Elizabeth Bollinger
Grace Elizabeth Bollinger, born Dec. 25, 1916, went home to be with God at the age of 94 on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
Betty, as she was known by many, was born and raised in King George CountyBetty is survived by her brother, George Vernon Ferrell; and four children, Patricia Thomas, Pamela Mellick, Barbara Parker and James Edward Bollinger. She was also blessed to have 12 grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. She was the matriarch of her family, always had a smile to share and will be greatly missed.
A funeral was held Monday, May 16, at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax.
