Lisa Marie Sawyer
Lisa Marie Sawyer, 37, of Fredericksburg, was called home to rest Saturday, April 30, 2011, after battling cancer.
Lisa was born in Sandusky, OH, on May 1, 1973, to Cindy Scott and Fernando Chavarria. She received her diploma from Courtland High School in Spotsylvania County, and was a dedicated employee of Intuit Inc. in Stafford County for 17 years.
In 1989, Lisa met Jeffrey Sawyer Sr., and on Aug. 12, 2000, they were joined in holy matrimony. Three children were born from this union. She was a devoted wife and a dedicated mother.
In 2010, Lisa was baptized in the precious name of Jesus at Mount Sinai Solid Rock Church of Christ in Rhoadesville.
She was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Elsie Hall.
Lisa leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Jeffrey Lewis Sawyer Sr.; her children Jeffrey Lewis Jr., Kierra Mae and Mya Alexis; her mother, Cindy Scott (Zachary) of King George; her father, Fernando Chavarria (Petra); two sisters, Amy Chavarria and Alisha Chinault (Danny), both of Spotsylvania; father- and mother-in-law Linwood C. and Yvonne Sawyer Sr. of Spotsylvania; five sisters-in-law, Lisa Coleman (Gary) of Louisa, Cassandra Shaw (Shaun) of Clinton, MD, and Bertina Sawyer, Angela Sawyer and LaTorya Sawyer, all of Spotsylvania; one brother-in-law, Linwood C. Sawyer Jr. (Phyllis) of Spotsylvania; lifelong devoted friends Angela Delp of Norfolk, Tamecka Townsend of Sandusky and Lameka Parker of Spotsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Friday, May 6, at Temple of Deliverance, in Mineral, VA, with a viewing one hour before the service.
The eulogy was given by Elder Linwood Sawyer Sr., pastor of Mount Sinai Solid Rock Church of Christ.
A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, 200 Butternut Drive, Fredericksburg, VA, 22408, handled the funeral arrangements.
Robert James Cross
Robert James Cross, 66, of Colonial Beach died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Cross was a graduate of Virginia Tech and later received his master’s from Florida Institute of Technology. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army, and then worked for the federal government with the Corps of Engineers. Along with his wife, Karon, he was the former owner of Cross Fire Designs. Mr. Cross was a member of Colonial Beach Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Karon A. Cross; two daughters, Alexa Holzwarth (Seth), and Adrienne Donovan (Michael); one sister, Carolyn MacMahon; and five grandchildren, Micah Holzwarth, Ty Holzwarth, Ainsley Donovan, Harper Donovan and Bennett Donovan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille Cross, and a sister, Alene Rice.
The family received friends at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral was held Tuesday, May 10, at Colonial Beach Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Almond officiating. Interment followed in Quantico National Cemetery.

Clarence Tayloe Jones, Sr.
Clarence Tayloe Jones Sr., 87, of Montross went to be with the Lord peacefully, with his family beside him, on Wednesday, May 4, 2011.
Mr. Jones, widower of Lottie Minor Jones, was a retired foreman at Montross Lumber Co. and a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Clarence T. Jones Jr. (Kathy) of Montross; daughter Gwynne J. Chatham (Kenney) of Montross; brother Woody Jones (Lois) of Fredericksburg; sister Mannie J. Crismond of Dahlgren; grandchildren Ken Chatham and Tiffany Chatham; son-in-law Robert Delano of Oldhams; and sister-in-law Peggy Jones of Montross. He is also survived by his beloved pets, Molly and Chula.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie J. Delano; brothers Arnold Jones, Irving Jones and Paul Jones; and a sister Annie Knight.
The family received friends at Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel. The funeral was held Friday, May 6, at the funeral home. Interment was in the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Makayla Jamesha-Jayviel Washington was born on Oct. 10, 2003, to James Washington of Bowling Green and Shannon Basham of King George. She departed this life on April 29, 2011, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax County.
A visitation was held at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Bowling Green, VA, and one hour before services, which were held Saturday, May 7, at the Caroline County Community Services Center, in Milford, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Milford.

Laura B. Hayes, 84, of Colonial Beach died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at her residence.
She is survived by three daughters, Leola Fox of Columbia, SC, Mary Dudley of Oxon Hill, MD, and Sharita Roy of Washington, DC; two sons, the Rev. Michael Bryant of Reedsville and David Hayes of Philadelphia; and 12 grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. David Cunningham officiating and the Rev. Sherman Hayes delivering the eulogy. Her remains may be viewed one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Historyland Memorial Park, King George County.

Thomas Purnell Tromley
Thomas Purnell Tromley, 78, of Fredericksburg passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011, at his home.
Born in Salisbury, MD, Mr. Tromley served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea and was an engineer with G.E. at NASA for the Gemini and Apollo space programs.
He is survived by three daughters, Cassandra Davis of Melbourne, FL, Cheryl Tromley of Fredericksburg and Shawn Rice of King George; three sons, Kip Melchert of Santa Clara, CA, Thomas P. Tromley Jr. of Melbourne, FL and Jeffrey R. Tromley of Fredericksburg; and seven grandchildren, Aric, Craig and Dena Rice, all of Spotsylvania County, and Thomas Tromley III, Michelle, Virginia and Audrey Tromley, all of Melbourne.
A graveside service for Thomas P. Tromley was held Monday, May 9, in Quantico National Cemetery. Mr. Tromley will be interred with his wife who passed away in 1998.

Elizabeth Marie Fedak
Elizabeth Marie Fedak, 89, of King George, formerly of Rossford, OH, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Bowling Green Health Care Center.
Born in Detroit, Elizabeth was a homemaker and a former member of All Saints Church in Rossford. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in King George, the Order of the Eagles in Rossford, and was an associate member of the Legion of Mary at St. Anthony’s.
The widow of Walter Fedak, she is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Miniuk of King George and Mary Ann St. Amand of Spring, TX; a sister, Bernice Barc of Sterling Heights, MI; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Sunday, May 8, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Monday, May 9, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in King George, with the Rev. Francis de Rosa officiating.
Interment will take place in Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, OH.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at Nash and Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. Robert Warnick officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oak Grove.
