Virginia Lillian Leith

Virginia Lillian Leith, 91, of King George County passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at her home in Mathias Point.
She was born the daughter of Charles Candy Middlebrook and Grace I. Middlebrook on April 29, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Virginia was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Salon 724 of the Eight and Forty, NARFE, the King George Chapter AARP and the American Stamp Collectors Society. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She retired from the U.S. government after 30 years with the Public Works Department at Dahlgren.
She is survived by a daughter, Leilani A. Kubik of King George; a son, Charles H. Leith of Spotsylvania County; a brother, Carlton G. Middlebrook of King George; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Oscar Harry Leith; a sister, Doris Wilcox; and two brothers, Edgar N. Middlebrook and Charles Q. Middlebrook.
Virginia did not wish for a funeral service. Her remains will be interred with her husband in Quantico National Cemetery.

Elizabeth C. Hemsley

Elizabeth C. Hemsley, 86, of Colonial Beach went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010.
Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth H. Markwith of Colonial Beach and Joanne H. Billig of Leesburg.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at New Life Ministries, Colonial Beach, with Pastor Denise Marth officiating.
Interment  followed in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

Donald P. Blass

Donald P. Blass, 53, of Colonial Beach passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010.
Donald was a self-employed master carpenter and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Blass; a daughter, Rebecca Mitchell of Westmoreland; two sons, Scott Flynn of McKinney, TX, and Shawn Flynn of Westmoreland; nine grandchildren; two sisters; a brother; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Blass of East Chatham, NY.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach.

Thomas H. Buscher, Sr.

Thomas H. Buscher, Sr., 67, of Westmoreland County passed away, Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the home of his son in King George County.
Thomas retired from Pepco Co. in Morgantown, MD after 30 years.
He is survived by a son, Thomas H. Buscher, Jr. of King George and a sister, Joan K. Mudd of VA Beach, VA.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Sat. November 27, 2010 at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.  A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Pkwy., Fredericskburg, VA 22407.

Elizabeth Tayloe Iams

Elizabeth Tayloe Iams, 90, of Richmond passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, in Richmond.
Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Jaquelin-Tayloe O’Niell of Rockville; a niece, Susan Tayloe Poe of Mechanicsville; and a great-niece, Alina Poe of Mechanicsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin P. Iams, and her son, Mason Donnan Iams.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, in St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery, King George, with the Rev. Diane Carroll officiating. A reception will follow in the church parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L St., Washington, D.C. 20037, or St. John’s Episcopal Church, Box 134, King George, Va. 22485.

Robert Ancil Walters

Robert Ancil Walters, 95, of Dahlgren passed away, Monday, November 22, 2010 at his residence.
Bob was born in Russell Springs, KY and retired as a physicist and engineer at NSWC-Dahlgren Division. He and his wife Jane owned and operated Walters Insurance Agency in Dahlgren.  He is one of the founders of the Dahlgren Lions Club and had recently received an award as its first life member of the Dahlgren Lions Club.  In addition, Bob was the founder of the Dahlgren Civic Association which led to many improvements in the Dahlgren Community, including  finding the initial funding for the beginning of Potomac Elementary School.  He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon for many years.
Bob is survived by his wife, E. Jane Walters of the home; two sons, Robert A. Walters, II, of PA, F. Wayne Walters, of Dahlgren; four grandchildren, Anthony Walter, Byron Walters, F. Wayne Walters, II, and Heather Walters and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Shiloh Baptist Church, King George, with the Rev. Michael Jessie and Rev. Richard Headley officiating.  Interment will follow at Historyland Memorial Park, King George. A visitation will be held from 6:30 -8 p.m. at the church on Friday, Nov. 26.
Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church Debt Reduction Fund, 13457 Kings Highway, King George, VA 22485.

Steve Young

Steve Young, 63, of Colonial Beach, passed away, Thursday, November 18, 2010, at his home.
Steve was a retired auto body technician in Fredericksburg and taught at Colonial Beach High School Vocational Tech. Dept.  He was also an assistant coach of the CBHS’s football team and a Co-founder of Colonial Rod Club and was a member of the Colonial Beach Education Foundation.
Steve is survived by his wife, Linda H. Young ; a son, Billy Pemberton of Charlottesville; a sister, Cindy Pettit of Colonial Beach; two brothers, Al Young of Colonial Beach and Bob Young of St. Leonard, MD; his adopted son, Rocky Foster of Charles County, MD and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Online guest book may be signed at nashandslawfh.com.
