Zachary Norman Connor
Zachary Norman Connor, 19 was received in the arms of God on Sunday February 21, 2010. He was born August 10, 1990, in Clinton, MD and lived in Hershey PA and McLean VA before the family relocated to King George. He is survived by his stepbrother, Christopher Buchanan of Dallas TX; his sister, Tiffany Connor, stepsister/cousin, Kendra Harrod and parents David and Barbara Buchanan all of King George and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He graduated from KGHS with honors at 16 and was a junior at VCU in Richmond. Zachary was the founder of CHOICES, an organization he began to help troubled teens.
His Memorial Celebration will be held at the King George Community Center on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 1-3PM. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations of any amount to CHOICES, PO Box 7, Ninde, VA 22526, to assist the family keeping Zachary’s dream alive.
John Eldon Hanna, Jr.
John Eldon Hanna, Jr., 78, of Winchester, Virginia died, Monday, February 22, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Hanna was born in 1931, in Alexandria, Louisiana, the only child of the late John E. Hanna and Julia M. Patton. He was a graduate of Russellville High School, the University of Arkansas and a graduate student of Ohio State University.
Mr. Hanna was a retired Civil Servant, with 34 years of distinguished service with the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, the U. S. Navy Hydrographic Office and the Defense Mapping Agency. He was a Veteran, having served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, aboard the USS Kearsarge, CVA-33, as an Aviation Electronics Technician, 2nd Class.
Mr. Hanna was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winchester, a deacon, member of the E.T. Clark Men’s Bible Class, the Singin’ Seniors Choir and served on various boards and committees. He was a member of the Clan Hannay Society, Scotland, United Kingdom.
He married Betty L. Hanna, on January 27, 1951, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Surviving with his loving wife of 59 years are two sons, Mark D. Hanna and wife, Andrea, of Ashburn, VA, Bradley L. Hanna and wife, Deborah, of King George, VA; five grandchildren, Jessica T. Brewer and husband, Terry J., of Waynesboro, PA, David B. Hanna of Frederick MD, Stephanie R. Hanna of Herndon, VA, Erin L. Hanna and Sean B. Hanna each of Fredericksburg, VA; one great grandson, Michael K. Brewer of Waynesboro, PA; his God-daughter, Jayme-Lee Mauro of Littleton, MA. Also surviving are his first cousin, Edmond Parson, of Houston, TX and former daughter-in-law, Karyn J. Hanna of Frederick, MD.
A Celebration of Life Service was conducted on Saturday, Feb. 27, at First Baptist Church of Winchester with Reverend George H. Fletcher officiating. A private interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, at a later date.
The family received friends on Friday evening at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, Virginia.

Shirley D. Hayes
Shirley D. “Chicken” Hayes, 78, of Colonial Beach died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Survivors include his brother, Frank Hayes, and his sister, Rosa Hayes, both of Colonial Beach.
A funeral was held Saturday, March 6, at New Monrovia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Welford McDowney officiating. Burial was in Sharp Hill Cemetery, King George.

John Francis Blom
Mr. John Francis Blom, 71, of King George County passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. His family was by his side.
John was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and loved stock car races. He was retired from the Stafford County school system as an electrician and served in the Navy.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Palma “Pam” Jett Blom; his son, Stuart Michael Blom and his wife, Lisa, of King George; two grandchildren, Garret Michael and Justin Thomas Blom; two sisters, Margaret Schill of Liverpool, N.Y., and Chris Mooney of Woodbridge; and one brother, Charles Blom of Syracuse, N.Y. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Jack and Jill.
The family received friends at the Mullins & Thompson Funeral Services, Fredericksburg Chapel, Thursday, March 4, p.m., and the funeral was held there Friday, March 5, with the Rev. Willis Dempsey officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Harald A. Harbord
Harald A. Harbord, 71, of Fredericksburg passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Harbord.
Mr. Harbord is survived by his daughters, Ramona Ventura and her husband, Al, of King George County, Diana Foster and her husband, Bob, of Fredericksburg, and Anita Rock and her husband, Joe, of Fredericksburg; his five grandchildren, Caitlin Ventura, Casey and Travis Foster, and Megan and Michael Rock; and his friend and companion, Lotte Albowski.
Harald served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1078.
A funeral was held Saturday, March 6, in the chapel at Laurel Hill Funeral Home. A private interment will be held in Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Veterans Affairs.

Mildred Kathleen Lail
Mildred Kathleen Lail, 79, of Stafford County passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at her residence, with her family by her side.
Mrs. Lail was born March 16, 1930, in North Carolina to Willie and Betty Rayfield Carpenter. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lail was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carlos Lail, and a brother, Paul Carpenter.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Licurgo and husband Bill of Colonial Beach, Rita Duvall of Stafford, and Shirley Matthews and husband Scott of Woodbridge; and one son, David Wayne Lail and wife Beverly of Manassas; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Sunday, March 7, at Mullins &Thompson Funeral Home, Stafford Chapel, 186 Shelton Shop Road, where a funeral was held Monday, March 8, with interment in Stafford Memorial Garden.

Wayne Douglas Chittum
Wayne Douglas Chittum, 75, of Colonial Beach died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Chittum was born Nov. 6, 1934, in Rockbridge County, son of the late Howard D. and Nellie Ardella Chittum, but was raised by his late uncle and aunt William E. and Gladys G. Niceley. He also was predeceased by his wife, Molly Ann Chittum, and his brother, Charles H. Chittum. He is survived by one daughter, Abby Lynn Chittum of Colonial Beach.
The family received friends Saturday, March 6, at Royston Funeral Home, Marshall, where a funeral was held Sunday, March 7, with the Rev. Jimmy Rodgers officiating. Interment will be in Carter Cemetery.
Yvonne Diane P. Chapman
Yvonne Diane Pollard Chapman, 46, of Durham, N.C., formerly of Tappahannock, departed this life Thursday, March 4, 2010.
She is survived by her husband, Alton Chapman Sr.; three sons, Aaron Terrell Chapman, Alton Chapman Jr. and godson Timothy Faison, all of North Carolina; her parents, Thomas Jr. and Julia Ann Pollard, a sister, Juanita Pollard, and a brother, Thomas L. Pollard, all of Tappahannock.
A funeral was held Tuesday, March 9, at First Union Baptist Church, Rexburg, with Rev. Milton Robinson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Washington Funeral Home, Tappahannock.

Lynn Flood Osborne, 79, of Montross died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond. No service is planned at this time.
