Irene Lortie

Irene Lortie of King George County passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at her home.
She lived in and around Montgomery, W.Va., for the first part of her life. Irene was a member of Wilderness Community Church.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Dana Rex Lortie; a son, Nutie Ray Miller and his wife, Judy, of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; two daughters, Linda Incao of Warrenton, Pa., and Dee Dee Holloran and her husband, Joe, of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Pauline Mascaro and her husband, Lou, of Montgomery, W.Va., and Hilda Keffer of Kimberly, W.Va.; two brothers, Bill Bob Hill and his wife, Patsy, of Hughes Creek, W.Va., and Luther Ray Hill of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Mabel Hill; and a son, Larry Lee Miller.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 30, at Wilderness Community Church, with Pastor Keith Boyette officiating. Burial will be in Hill Cemetery in Belva, W.Va., at a later date.  Online condolences may be expressed at foundandsons.com.

Stephen Chuhta

Stephen Chuta, 78, of Fredericksburg, VA, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
Mr. Chuhta had retired as a program manager from the Department of Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Edith H. Chuhta; two sons, David Chuhta of Trumbull, Conn., and Glenn Chuhta of Colonial Beach; a daughter, Sandra Mallette of Hanover, Pa.;  his sister, Theresa Engelke of Melbourne, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
A service was held Monday,  Feb. 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.  Burial was  in Quantico National Cemetery with military honors.
Memorials may be made to The Myositis Association, Attn: Development Department, 1737 King St., Suite 600, Alexandria, Va. 22314.

Alvin L. Jett

Alvin L. Jett, 80, of Spotsylvania County passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Jett is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Shirley Jett of Spotsylvania; two sons, Robert and his wife, Barbara Ann, of King George County, and Ricky and his wife, Carla, of Spotsylvania; and three daughters, Linda Cole and her husband, Gary, Lori Shelton and her husband, Bobby, and Kathy Curtis and her husband, Burt, all of Spotsylvania. Additional survivors include a sister, Geraldine Shelton of King George; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph; son William Alvin Jett; and a grandson, Ronald Doggett Jr.
A funeral for Mr. Jett was held Monday, Feb. 1. at Found & Sons Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Farrow officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family requests contributions in his name be made to Found and Sons to cover funeral expenses.

William Douglas Payne

William Douglas “Doug” Payne Sr., 87, of Colonial Beach died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Payne was born July 6, 1922, in Marshall, a son of the late Percy and Edith Fishback Payne. He was a veteran of World War II, and had been an electrician for 40 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife, Jesse Jane Payne; one daughter, Gwennie Payne; and one brother, Francis Payne.
Survivors include one daughter, Dale P. Thomas of Fredericksburg; three sons, Doug Payne Jr. of Marshall, Randy Payne of Amissville and Allen Payne of Colonial Beach; one sister, Charlotte Duncan of Marshall; one brother, Vernon Payne of Winchester; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Monday, Feb. 1, at Royston Funeral Home, Marshall, officiated by the Rev. Steven Payne. Interment was in Marshall Cemetery.

Charles Hart

Charles “Chuck” Hart, 64, of King George County died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Hart of King George; two daughters, Susan L. Davidson of King George and Claudia Hart of Lansing, Mich.; a son, Charles Hart Jr. of King George; his sister, Mildred Rose of Mississippi; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Cedell Brooks Memorial Chapel, Port Royal, with the Rev. William T. Frye officiating. Mr. Hart’s body was cremated.

Anthony D. Del Giacco

Surrounded by his family at home, Anthony D. “Tony” Del Giacco, 70, born in Troy, N.Y., and a longtime resident of Fredericksburg, was welcomed into God’s Kingdom on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010.
Tony was proud of his honorable service in the U.S. Army and attended Potomac Baptist Church in King George County. He retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service as manager of Martin & Boyd Spring Works in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his best friend and loving wife of 40 years, Patricia Lynch Del Giacco; his six children, Michael, and his wife, Sandy, of De Pere, Wisc., David, and his wife, Gina, of Lake Forest, Calif., Kellie Liming of Spotsylvania County, Daniel of Troy, N.Y., Andrea Vrooman and her husband, Steve, of King George, and Michelle Del Giacco Kelley of Stafford County; a sister, Ann Yamin, and her husband--and Tony’s special friend--Daniel, of Brainard, N.Y.; a brother, Albert, and his wife, Carolyn, of Troy; 12 grandchildren, Joshua Reaver, Candace Wine, Danielle Del Giacco, Samantha Kelley, Rachel Liming, Matthew Pitts, Nicole Del Giacco, Billy Kelley Jr., Carley Vrooman, Katie Del Giacco, Kasey Liming and Amanda Del Giacco; and two great-grandchildren, Remy Reaver and Trinity Nuckols.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Michael S. Del Giacco and Pasqualina Del Giacco; sisters Marie DePaoli, Antoinette Swingle, Virginia Archambeault and Lorraine LeFleur; and mother-in-law Emma Lynch.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Potomac Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Newton officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m.  in Quantico National Cemetery.

Stewart George L. Darling

Stewart George Louis Darling, 28, of King George County died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at his residence.
Survivors include his parents, Ronald Darling of King George and Lori Darling of Georgia; his sisters, Jen and Athena Darling, both of Georgia; his paternal grandparents, Helen and Wayne Darling of Michigan; his maternal grandmother, Ruth Smith of California; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be no services.

Ruth E. McDaniel

Ruth E. McDaniel, 93, of King George County went to meet her savior on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.  She had been lovingly cared for at Hearts at Home and by the Medic Home Health and Hospice.
Ruth was born June 30, 1916, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Robert and Irene Rawlette McCauley.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Thornton F. McDaniel; a brother, Robert McCauley; and two sisters, Ethel Bredekamp and Hilda Hazard.
She is survived by one son, Rick and his wife Maggie McDaniel; her cherished granddaughter, Michelle McDaniel; and Frances Ensminger, her dearest friend, all of King George,  and two nephews and three nieces.
She was raised in King George by her grandparents.  She and her husband together ran T. F. McDaniel Grocery in King George for more than 40 years.  She was a lifelong member of Hanover Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and also taught the BTU and vacation Bible school.
Her friends will miss her contagious laughter and sense of humor.  Also missed will be her childhood tales of “little Ricky,” her competitive weekly Boggle game, her summertime love of croquet and her enduring passion for the welfare of animals.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in KG.   
A service will begin at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Boyer officiating.  Interment will follow in Meadow-Brooke Memorial Gardens, (formerly Historyland Memorial Park) in King George.

Eva Arlen Sanders

Eva Arlene (MeMe) Sanders, 69, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Colonial Beach, VA, died February 1, 2010 after a brief illness.  
Arlene was predeceased in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Sanders and her mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Duley.  
She is survived by her four children, Cathy Shumaker, Jimmy Alderson (Nancy), Steve Alderson (Lynn), and Kelly Raley (Hoppy).  
She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren: Josh Shumaker, Mike Alderson, Amanda Shumaker, Shane Alderson, Ashlee Alderson and Samantha Raley and one great-grandchild, Landon Gatton.  
MeMe is also survived by her BFF, Kim Young whom was also her caregiver during her recent illness.
