Shirley Elaine Tompkins
Shirley Elaine Tompkins, 61, of Montross departed this life Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, in a Prince George's County hospital.
She is survived by one son, Wayne Shepherd of Montross; three daughters, Cynthia Ingram of Lanham, Md., Linda Howard and DeAnna Tompkins of Clinton, Md.; four stepchildren, Frank Tompkins of Richmond, Phillip Tompkins of Huntsville, Texas, Marion Tompkins of Fredericksburg and Wanda Tompkins of Silver Spring, Md.; and two brothers, James Shepherd of Colonial Beach and Bennie Shepherd Jr. of Montross.
A funeral service was held on Dec. 27th with the Rev. Lloyd N. Fox officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Service of comfort was entrusted to Washington Funeral Home, Tappahannock.
Odell H. Curtis
Odell H. Curtis, 79, of Stafford County, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anita Dillard Curtis; children Steven Curtis and his wife, Shay, of Spotsylvania County, Kim Campbell and her husband, Ray, of Caroline County, Kelly Curtis and his wife, Terry, of Stafford, Robin Curtis of Stafford, Matthew Curtis and his wife, Michele, of King George County and Floyd Bonacorsi and his wife, Donna, of Stafford; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Bill Mills of Caroline; a sister-in-law, June Sullivan and her husband, Roy, of Stafford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held on Saturday, Dec. 27, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel with the Rev. Robert W. Sizemore, the Rev. Peyton Wiltshire, and the Rev. Ricky Dillard officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Teresa B. Torrance
Teresa B. Torrance, 85, of Colonial Beach died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Her survivors include two daughters, Lorelei Dodd of Dale City and Betsy Sutton of Colonial Beach; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence C. Torrance, her son, Lawrence Torrance Jr.; and grandson Jimmy.
A funeral was held at Monday, Dec. 29, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Colonial Beach. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, in Quantico National Cemetery.

George F. Hamilton, Sr.
George Franklin Hamilton Sr., 86, passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond.
He was a World War II veteran, and Purple Heart recipient. He was employed at Ingleside Plantation Nurseries as a herdsman and a nurseryman for 26 years. For 40 years he managed the Leedstown Campground.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Marjorie Broache Hamilton and his four children: Brenda Hamilton Hynson of King George County, Sylvia Hamilton Hutt, Deborah Hamilton Hutt and her husband, Michael L. Hutt, all of Hanover County, George Franklin Hamilton Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Warsaw, and honorary daughter, Regina Moriarity of King George. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mark Edward Hynson and his wife, Billie Jo, of Montross, Jessica Hamilton Hutt and Michael Hamilton Hutt, both of Hanover, Lauren Hamilton Scates and her husband, John, George Franklin Hamilton III and Katelin Marie Hamilton, all of Warsaw; his great-grandchildren, Owen Wilson Hynson and Von Hamilton Hynson of Montross, Riley Scates of Warsaw; and step-grandaughter, Mandy Bean and her children, Kyle, Skylar, Isabelle and Marley; and many other loving relatives and loyal friends.
A funeral was held on Monday, Dec. 29, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Oak Grove, with the Rev. Willard Bowen and the Rev. Danny Maupin officiating.

Gloria J. Johnson
Gloria J. Johnson, 61, of King George County died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Irving Johnson of King George; her children, Delores Johnson, Cynthia Smith and Keith Smith, all of King George, Mark Smith of Front Royal, Eric Smith of North Carolina, Wayne, Kirk, Krystal and Keith Johnson, all of King George, Gary and Ivan Johnson of Tennessee and LaShon Wise of Spotsylvania County; two brothers, Vernon B. Tubman Sr. of Mechanicsville, Md. and Reese J. Carson of Slidell, La.; four sisters, Joyce Jenning of Washington, D.C., Janice Alexander-Daye, Verna Lee Alexander and Angela Alexander, all of Maryland.
A funeral was held on Dec. 30, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Port Royal. Burial was in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle.

Joseph C. "Joe" Frank, Sr.
Joseph C. "Joe" Frank Sr., 82, of King George County died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Frank was a U.S. Army veteran and had retired as a heavy equipment operator at NSWC, Dahlgren. He was a lifelong farmer and member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley June Frank of the home; one son, Joseph Cleveland Frank Jr. and his wife, Betty, of King George; and two grandchildren, Joseph C. Frank III and Crystal M. Ackerman and her husband, Jacob, all of King George.
A private graveside service will be held in the Frank-Lee family cemetery in King George.

Robert Allen Kaila, Sr.
Robert Allen Kaila Sr., 64, of Stafford County left his family and friends Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, to spend Christmas in heaven.
As his last act of giving, Bob left his body to Life Legacy Foundation for research.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Linda Kaila; his mother, Mae Kaila; and his seven children, Cynthia Able of Stafford, Angela Bush and her husband, Ron, of Rowlett, Texas, Paul Guy and his wife, Terri Bard, of King George County, Brenda Dunn and her husband, Steve, of Vienna, Robert Kaila Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Spotsylvania County, Amy Clower and her husband, Kevin, of Stafford and Laura Hitt and her husband, Randy, of Spotsylvania. He also leaves behind the joys of his life, his 20 grandchildren, Caitlin Rowley, Brandon Able, Austin and Alex Bush, Ellie, Macey and Sophie Guy, Sydney and Landon LaFleur, Torin and Kiley Dunn, Cody, Erin, Zach and Bryce Kaila, Makenzie and KC Clower and Brooke, Randy and Payton Hitt. He is also survived by his brothers, Chris Kaila and his wife, Patti, John Kaila and his wife, Charlene, all of Spotsylvania, and Mark Kaila and his wife, Brenda, of Utah.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Dec. 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Stephen McGraw officiating.

Floyd W. Green
Floyd W. Green, 56, of Fredericksburg passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Floyd was born in King George County to the late Mary Beatrice Sullivan-Green and Duff Green. He was a well-known musician in the Fredericksburg area.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy R. Henry; two brothers, John Duff Green and Billy Rupprecht; two sisters, Linda Cellular and Peggy Stone; and two grandsons, Gage and Wyatt Henry.
A memorial gathering was held at Found & Sons Funeral Chapels and Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A private interment will occur in the family cemetery at a later date.

Russell Gene King, 68, of Colonial Beach died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Survivors include his four children, Daryl Russell King, Roger Anthony King, Gregory Allen Catlett and Heather Faye Devers and her husband, Ryan; four brothers, Melvin King, Kenny King Sr., Jimmy King and William "Buck" King; five grandchildren, Krista Bacon, Cherokee King, Ashton King, James Russell Devers and Anthony John Hile; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Louise King; his second wife, Medina King; his parents, William and Essie King; three brothers, David, Charles and Henry King; and a sister, Hazel Sterman.
A funeral was held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Jean Jones Rose
Jean Jones Rose, 72, of Colonial Beach died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in Richmond, Mrs. Rose was a homemaker and loving wife. She was a member of Round Hill Baptist Church in King George County.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Cecil L. Rose; two daughters, Karen Hattenback and her husband, Roy, of Front Royal and Deborah St. Clair and her husband, Kevin, of Charlotte Hall, Md.; nine grandchildren, Wynter, Brittany, Ryan Thomas, Amy, Eric, Ryan Lee, Craig, Amber and June; and one great-granddaughter, Shelby.
A funeral was held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. Lester Curtis Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Round Hill Baptist Church cemetery, King George.

Robert Dudley, 68, of Colonial Beach died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at his residence.
He is survived by one son, Army Sgt. 1st Class Robert Turner of Fort Campbell, Ky.; one daughter, Patricia Turner of Colonial Beach; four stepchildren, Linda Pratt of King George County, Earl Turner, Lorraine Richards and Brenda Turner, all of Colonial Beach; 13 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dudley also is survived by three brothers, Eugene and Benjamin Dudley, both of Colonial Beach, and William Dudley of King George; and five sisters, Marjorie Wynn and Joyce Blakey, both of Charlottesville, Christine Waters of Clinton, Md., Frances Holmes of King George, and Julia Mae Thompson of Colonial Beach.
A funeral will be held noon Friday, Jan. 2, at First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, with Dr. David Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.
