Shirley M. Carr Hartman

Shirley M. Carr Hartman, age 75, of Joliet, IL, formerly of King George, VA & Chicago, is at rest with the Angels, having passed on Sunday, March 3, 2013, surrounded by many family members.

Born on Sept. 9, 1937, Shirley was the loving Mom of Roy Kutsy of Maryville, TN, Robert Kutsy (Carolyn) of Joliet, Debra Damon (Andrew) of King George, Vicki Parker-Black (Brian) of Lafayette, IN and Dawn Harder (John) of Orland Park, IL; cherished Grandma of Cassandra, Joseph, Katrina, Sarah, Brian, Jennifer, Joshua, Robert and the late Clinton John; caring Great-Grandmother of Layla; dearest Daughter of the late Royal Earl & Liberty Louise Carr; fond Sister of Marian Phillips, Bill and the late Frank and John Carr; also survived by many nieces & nephews.

Shirley was a U.S. Navy Veteran who proudly served as a Hospital Corpsman in the late 1950’s, as well as a long-time employee of Marshall Field’s and Carson, Pirie, Scott, both in downtown Chicago. She enjoyed reading, music, camping, gardening, traveling, puzzles and hand-crafts but loved caring for God’s animals. Psalm 148.

The family received friends on March 6 at Zarzycki Manor Chapel in Willow Springs, IL. A funeral service was held on March 7 with military honors, and interment following in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Robert Gordon Watts, Sr.

Robert Gordon “Bob” Watts Sr. 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of King George County and Fredericksburg, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Port Charlotte.

Mary L. “Nannie” Taylor, age 83, of King George County, formerly of Essex County, departed this life March 28, 2013, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Washington Funeral Home, Tappahannock.

Evelena D. Coleman

Evelena D. Coleman, 55, of King George County died Friday, March 29, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.

A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5, at First Baptist Church, 619 Jackson St. in Colonial Beach. A viewing will be held for two hours before the service.  

Burial will follow the funeral service in the church cemetery at Little Ark Baptist Church, 15681 Owens Drive, KG.

James Jacob Gallahan

James Jacob Gallahan Jr, 60, of King George County passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two children, Dana Gallahan (Pamila) and Shannon Hamm (Marqis); three sisters, Cindy Williamson, Amelia Graninger and Celia Payne; six grandchildren, Dana Gallahan Jr., Macalla Gallahan, Candice Hodge, Robby Pierce, Courtney Hodge and Whitney Hamm; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Friday, March 22, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Burial was private.

Peggy Ladaun Miner

Peggy Ladaun Miner, 39, of Colonial Beach passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.

She was a Little League coach and team mom, and was employed with Walmart. She also was a former member of the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad.

Michael J. Rich

Michael J. Rich, 59, of King George County passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Sentara Hospital in Norfolk.

He is survived by daughter Latoya Johnson; son Billy “Pete” Shanklin; two grandchildren; father Pat Rich and stepmother Linda Rich of Colonial Beach; three brothers, Hardie Rich (Pam) of King George; Andrew Rich (Erma) of Virginia Beach and Patrick Rich of Colonial Beach; and a sister, Angela Tate (Eric) of Colonial Beach.

The family received friends Friday, March 22, at Salem Baptist Church in King George. A service was held Saturday, March 23, with the Rev. Leonard G. Bland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Howard Worth, Jr.

Howard Vernon “Butch” Worth Jr., 55, of King George County passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at home.
Howard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS America. He had retired from Coleman Homes of Fredericksburg.

Francis T. Martin

Francis T. Martin, 95, of King George County passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at Greenfield  Assisting Living in Stafford County.

Francis was a member of the King George Planning Comm. from the Dahlgren Dist. in the ‘70s. He was also a Bronze Star recipient for his service in World War II. He was a founding member of Peace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Martin; son Robert Martin; and grandchildren Christopher Martin, Sharon Cantrell, John Evans and Kate Raisor. He was preceded in death by daughter Barbara J. Martin.

The family received friends Friday, March 22, at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home in Port Royal. A service was held Saturday, March 23, at Peace Lutheran Church in King George, with the Rev. Terrance Naumann officiating. There was a viewing one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial was in Eagles’ Nest Cemetery in King George.

Donations may be made in his name to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.

Carla J. Self, 45, of King George County died March 13, 2013.
She is survived by her husband, two brothers and seven children and was preceded in death by mother Teresa and brother Hugh.
A service was held at A.L. Bennett and Sons Funeral Home on March 20, 2013.

Gordon M. Maiden

Gordon M. Maiden, 82, of Colonial Beach passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at Westmoreland Rehab Center in Colonial Beach.

A funeral was held Monday, March 25, at Little Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove.

Interment was in the Smith Family cemetery in Oak Grove.

Weldon-Fisher Funeral Home, Warsaw, is handling the arrangements.
